Job description

WHO WE ARE: DebtBook is the financial platform powering treasury and capital markets across the public sector. State and local governments, public universities, health systems, and the bankers and advisors who serve them run trillions of dollars in debt, cash, and investments on DebtBook. We've built the most sophisticated treasury platform in public finance — sitting at the intersection of treasury management and a $4 trillion fixed income market that's been waiting for modern infrastructure. HOW WE WORK: Our application is a Majestic Monolith built with Ruby on Rails, React, and PostgreSQL. Our app is hosted in AWS, and we use GitLab for our CI/CD pipelines and deployments. We use feature flags to allow us to continually integrate our code. Our front-end is built with React, TypeScript, and MUI React. We have an in-house library of accessible components that is documented in StoryBook. Most of the components are built out and being used in new development, and we are in the process of implementing them throughout existing parts of the application. Our back-end is a Ruby on Rails JSON API that communicates with a React SPA (single page application). All of our engineers work on the front-end, back-end and database. We have some engineers who are much more experienced in one, but we can all do some work in any part of the stack. We have a small dedicated infrastructure team, but our teams deploy and monitor their own code. Engineers collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and industry specialists to understand problems and design solutions. Engineers write and manage breaking down work into tickets and owning the tickets. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Participate in all stages of the SDLC: solution shaping, system design, ticket writing/breakdown, write full-stack code, review code, perform deployments, participate in monitoring, and gather data for reporting. Own the quality of your work. Write tests and work with your team to ensure everything works before merging and releasing. Work cross-functionally on your team to ensure work is scoped to deliver quickly and deliver the right functionality. Work collaboratively with other cross functional product-focused teams. WHAT YOU’LL BRING: 2+ years of related professional experience Experience with Ruby or React Some familiarity with front-end and back-end web development Ability to communicate complicated technical concepts well with teammates in all functions, including non-technical roles OUR “GOAT” VALUES: GROW Continuously We believe in continuous improvement, never accepting the status quo as good enough, and iterating to move quickly without compromising on quality. We are energized by the fast-paced rate of change that growth demands and see new challenges as opportunities for resilience and personal development. We are driven by curiosity to think creatively, innovate, and experiment, and we humbly incorporate lessons learned from success and failure along the journey. OWN Your Outcomes We hold ourselves accountable for exceptional effort, execution, reliability, professionalism, and results that add tremendous value for customers. We are all individual contributors, responsible for delivering value to our customers, team, and company with every action we take. As managers, we lead by example in both what we do and how we do it, and stay personally familiar with the work as we coach our teams. We follow through on our decisions and commitments with action. ABOVE & Beyond We create moments of magic, surprising and delighting our customers at every touchpoint. We run towards problems and enthusiastically jump in to help colleagues however we can be valuable. We take pride in proactively doing the extra little things that set us apart, even when no one is watching. TEAM Over Ego There is no task needed at DebtBook that is beneath any of us. We work hard to be the teammate others want on their team. We have the courage to have hard conversations and the grace to receive honest feedback in pursuit of excellence.
