The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in electrical hardware design with hands-on experience developing complex medical devices from prototype through commercialization. Essential Duties Work under general direction while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and commercialize Zepto's molecular diagnostic instrumentation, including but not limited to: Serve as the technical owner of the GMR instrumentation electronics platform throughout the product lifecycle. Evaluate the current hardware architecture and identify technical limitations, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Design, develop, and optimize analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits for diagnostic instrumentation. Lead schematic capture, PCB design reviews, component selection, and hardware architecture decisions. Redesign existing electronics to improve performance, manufacturability, reliability, scalability, and product maturity. Develop engineering specifications from product and system requirements. Collaborate with software engineers to understand and optimize implementation of the GMR signal processing algorithm. Design and optimize temperature monitoring and control systems for sensitive molecular diagnostic applications. Improve signal integrity, electrical noise performance, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and immunity. Plan and execute hardware verification, electrical characterization, environmental, thermal, and reliability testing. Analyze test data, investigate hardware failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Develop and maintain engineering documentation including hardware specifications, design documentation, verification reports, and technical records. Participate in product risk management activities including Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), hazard analysis, and risk mitigation. Support FDA submissions by preparing engineering documentation supporting Design Controls and Design History Files (DHF). Manage technical relationships with PCB manufacturers, electronic component suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external engineering partners. Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) initiatives. Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline. Minimum five (5) years of professional experience designing electronic hardware. Demonstrated experience developing analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic systems. Experience designing and reviewing multilayer printed circuit boards (PCB). Strong understanding of electronic component selection, signal integrity, power management, and circuit troubleshooting. Strong understanding of amplitude modulation (AM) and mixing techniques, including synchronous/lock-in detection, phase-sensitive detection, and signal filtering. Strong understanding of Wheatstone bridge excitation and differential sensing, including offset, bridge imbalance, common-mode behavior, and instrumentation amplifier design. Experience with power supply design and noise mitigation, including LDOs, switching regulators, ripple, power supply rejection ratio (PSRR), voltage reference architectures, ground coupling, and power sequencing. Experience identifying and mitigating conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) and susceptibility through source-level, PCB layout, and system-level design techniques. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex analog and mixed-signal systems using laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and other electronic measurement tools. Experience performing hardware verification and validation testing. Experience using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and electronic measurement instruments. Strong technical documentation and engineering communication skills. Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex engineering projects. Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Medical device development experience. Experience supporting FDA-regulated product development. Experience with molecular diagnostic or life science instrumentation. Experience developing sensor-based electronic systems. Familiarity with Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor technology. Experience managing external suppliers and contract manufacturers. Competencies Strong technical leadership and ownership mindset. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead complex engineering projects from concept through commercialization. Exceptional troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Ability to communicate effectively across engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, and executive teams. Strong technical writing and documentation skills. Work Environment This position is based in a research and development laboratory and engineering environment where strict adherence to corporate policies, quality systems, and safety procedures is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The work environment includes laboratory instrumentation, electronic test equipment, prototype assembly areas, and manufacturing support activities. The noise level in the work environment is typical for laboratory and engineering environments. There is minimal exposure to Blood-borne Pathogens. Exposure to Infectious Diseases is mitigated through the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Occasional exposure to soldering equipment, electronic components, laboratory chemicals, cleaning agents, and manufacturing equipment may occur. Job Type Pay Range: $95,000–$115,000 annually. Compensation is based on several factors including education, experience, technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and overall qualifications. FLSA Status: Exempt, Monday-Friday 9:00am - 5:30pm (half-hour unpaid lunch), onsite. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits including holiday time off, paid time off (PTO), sick time off, health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), health savings account (HSA), 401(k), and life insurance. Some traveling may be required.
