An opportunity has come through our network for an SEO Strategist at a leading healthcare company. This 3+ month contract position , with a pay rate of $45/hr on W2 , is 100% remote , though it requires working Eastern hours. We’re looking for a well-rounded SEO strategist to support our team on a contract basis—someone with deep technical SEO expertise and strong on-page and content optimization skills. You’ll collaborate closely with our internal SEO team to identify, execute, and support strategies that enhance organic visibility, crawlability, and user experience across enterprise-level websites. This role includes both strategy and hands-on execution, and your contributions will directly impact the success of client initiatives across technical infrastructure, content quality, and keyword targeting.
Core Responsibilities: Driving Organic Growth Through Technical & Content SEO
As an SEO Strategist, you will be a key player in a dynamic team, blending technical proficiency with content strategy to enhance organic performance for enterprise-level websites. Your responsibilities will span meticulous audits, strategic recommendations, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Technical SEO: You will be responsible for conducting thorough technical SEO audits , which includes in-depth analysis of crawl behavior , indexing status , canonicalization , internal linking structures , site speed , structured data , and mobile usability . You’ll develop prioritized recommendations to improve site architecture, template performance, and search engine crawlability. Furthermore, you will actively monitor and diagnose technical issues using industry-standard tools like Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, OnCrawl , and similar platforms. You’ll also play a key role in collaborating with developers and internal teams to QA and validate technical fixes, ensuring their successful implementation and positive impact on organic performance.
• Content SEO: You will perform comprehensive keyword research aligned with client goals, audience intent, and the competitive landscape to identify strategic content opportunities. You’ll then create detailed content briefs , optimize existing content for search engines, and identify new content gaps based on market trends. Your expertise will be used to provide strategic recommendations on metadata, header structure, structured data, and internal linking . You’ll also analyze content performance based on KPIs such as rankings, click-through rate (CTR), and engagement, providing data-driven insights for optimization.
• Cross-Functional Support: You will foster strong relationships by working collaboratively with internal SEOs, writers, analysts, and strategists to align technical and content efforts seamlessly. You’ll meticulously document your findings and actively contribute to team knowledge-sharing, fostering a culture of continuous learning. You’ll be expected to stay up-to-date on algorithm changes , emerging tools, and best practices across both technical and content disciplines, ensuring the team’s strategies remain cutting-edge and effective.
Desired Experience and Skills: Your Qualifications for SEO Excellence
To excel as an SEO Strategist, you’ll need a strong background in SEO, mastery of core tools, and an analytical mindset.
• Extensive SEO Experience: You must possess 2+ years of verifiable SEO experience , with a preference for B2B and healthcare industry experience. This background demonstrates a solid understanding of SEO principles and their application in a professional context.
• Mastery of Core SEO Tools: You have mastery of core SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, ahrefs, SEMrush, BrightEdge, and DeepCrawl , among others. This hands-on proficiency is crucial for conducting in-depth analysis, monitoring performance, and identifying strategic opportunities.
• Familiarity with CMS Platforms: You are familiar with common CMS (Content Management System) platforms like WordPress, Drupal, and Sitecore . This knowledge is essential for understanding how content is managed and how technical SEO can be implemented within these systems.
• Strong Web Technology Understanding: You have a strong understanding of HTML , the foundational language of the web. A working knowledge of JavaScript and CSS is also preferred, which enhances your ability to diagnose technical issues and collaborate effectively with development teams.
• Solid Grasp of Content Strategy: You have a solid grasp of content strategy principles , from keyword targeting and on-page structure to content optimization for both users and search engines. This blend of technical and content expertise is vital for a well-rounded SEO strategist.
• Analytical Mindset: You possess an analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and formulate actionable next steps. Your insights will drive decision-making and contribute to measurable improvements in organic performance.
• Understanding of Interrelationships in Digital Channels: You have a progressive understanding of the interrelationship between SEO and other digital channels (e.g., paid search, social media, content marketing). This holistic view enables you to contribute to an integrated digital strategy.
Preferred Qualifications: Enhancing Your Expertise
• Healthcare Industry Experience: Experience within the healthcare industry is a significant plus, as it provides a valuable understanding of the unique compliance and audience needs of this sector.
• Local SEO Best Practices: Familiarity with local SEO best practices (e.g., Google Business Profile, local structured data, citation management) would be beneficial.
• Agency or Contractor Experience: Previous agency or contractor experience is preferred, as it demonstrates adaptability, client management skills, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
