Job description

Who we are Picogrid is a leading venture-backed defense technology company founded to bridge the decades-long gap between modern technology and the critical demands of national security. Today, we're building the essential infrastructure to unify sensors, autonomy, and operators with our technology deployed in active operations around the world. Our mission is to deliver an operational advantage to secure the United States and its allies. ABOUT THE ROLE Picogrid is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, build, and deploy mission-critical hardware systems that support U.S. defense operations. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of embedded systems, mechanical integration, and high-reliability design, where you will own key electrical components that power connected autonomous systems in the field. You will own the full design lifecycle for various hardware products: from rapid prototyping and validation through production and direct field deployment. Your work is not bench-bound; you will collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and deployment teams to ensure systems operate reliably in harsh environments from deserts to flightlines to active field operations. Expect fast iteration and minimal layers between your engineering and the end user, driving real-world mission impact. This role is open to both mid-level and senior engineers. - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. - Deep understanding of high-speed digital design, signal integrity, power electronics, and common electronic circuits. Proven experience in schematic capture and PCB design for high-reliability applications (aerospace, defense, or similar industries preferred). - Growth mindset, results-oriented focus, and proficiency in leveraging modern tools to maximize productivity. - Ability to interpret and apply design specifications, datasheets, and technical drawings. - If you don’t check every box on this list, but your experience and passion align with the Picogrid team, we encourage you to still apply. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Familiarity with Embedded Engineering, STM32, FreeRTOS, C/C++, Rust. - Experience with defense, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware, and designing systems for environmental robustness (temperature, vibration, ingress protection). - Experience in NVIDIA SoM carrier PCBs. - Expertise in power electronics design, PCIE, USB-C 3.2, Ethernet, and PoE. - Comfort supporting end-to-end system deployment, including in field settings. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS - Base salary range: $160,000 - $180,000 per year. Base salary is just one part of your total compensation package at Picogrid. - Significant stock options with a high potential upside as an early-stage company - 401(k) with employer matching - Full health coverage (medical, dental, and vision insurance) - Relocation assistance provided (if applicable) - Unlimited PTO (two-week minimum) and 11 paid holidays per year - Paid parental leave for both parents - Lunch provided when working in-office and a fully stocked kitchenette - Free EV charging at the HQ - Unique office in El Segundo, CA stocked with quality coffee, snacks, and craft beer Export Control Requirements To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
