Job description

Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians alike. Through our membership model, we deliver exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, transparent pricing, and modern hospitality in thoughtfully designed, stress-free spaces. Founded in 2019 with our flagship location in Manhattan’s West Village, Small Door has quickly expanded across the East Coast. In July 2026, Small Door and Bond Vet merged to build a more connected, accessible, and compassionate veterinary care experience across routine, primary, and urgent care. The combined organization will span more than 55 clinics across major Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest markets, serving over half a million pets. This role will play an important part in shaping the next chapter of our combined organization and advancing our shared mission to transform veterinary care. This is the fifth company that Small Door’s founders have been involved in building. In building Small Door, they partnered with the people responsible for beloved consumer experiences like Warby Parker and Sweetgreen, in addition to healthcare innovators such as One Medical, CityMD and Flatiron Health. Small Door has raised capital from Lerer Hippeau, Primary Ventures, Brand Foundry, Toba Capital, and Pentland Group. The broader management team brings experience from Casper, One Medical, Soulcycle, Warby Parker, Sweetgreen, Peloton, Gilt Groupe, Lightspeed, and Outbrain. The Director of Product reports directly to the VP of Data and Technology and owns the product function end to end. This role can be based in New York City or Montreal. We are seeking a senior, hands-on Director of Product to own our consumer and staff-facing product portfolio, spanning our website, mobile app, booking, membership management, internal applications, and telehealth, and to lead the product workstreams as we bring our newly combined practice groups together. Two strong businesses are becoming one, and the product decisions made over the next year will shape what that company looks like. Few product roles offer that kind of leverage this early. This is an end-to-end role. You will take a problem from discovery through to what ships, and you will do it hands-on. We expect you to make full use of AI tools like Claude to move quickly: building functional prototypes that make an idea concrete, working through options with stakeholders, and staying in the loop across the entire SDLC rather than handing work off at each stage. You will not be doing this alone. Our engineering and data team is senior and close to the business. The good work here happens with a product person and an engineer in the same room, early, before anyone has decided what to build. Strong product judgment here shows up in two places: in the room with doctors, nurses, practice managers, and leadership at every level, where you learn what is really happening, and on the page, where you make the case for what we do about it. You should be comfortable writing the memo that sets product direction and ties it to the goals and KPIs the company is measured on. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Own the consumer product portfolio end to end — website, mobile app, booking, membership management, practice extension, telehealth, pharmacy/refill — from discovery and specs through QA, rollout, and post-launch measurement - Lead product workstreams for the integration of our newly combined practice groups: systems and product reconciliation, integration roadmap, and day-to-day coordination with the incoming product and ops teams - Own the what and the why for the product, partnering with technology leadership — who own the how — to co-own the when, and collaborate with them to establish engineering prioritization frameworks - Drive monetization and conversion: design, ship, and analyze pricing, packaging, and funnel experiments; own upgrade paths from pay-as-you-go to membership - Own the marketing website: ship pages and changes directly (AI-assisted React stack), run new-practice landing pages and lead capture, and partner with marketing on SEO and web performance - Build staff-facing product with ops, medical, and member-experience leadership: internal PMS tooling, AI-assisted workflow automation, intake and auditing systems — including judgment calls on medically sensitive automation - Be your own analyst: SQL against production data, FullStory funnels, experiment statistics; co-run the data-intake and BI prioritization process with the data team - Partner with the technology team to co-own vendor relationships (PMS, AI scribe, voice AI), covering evaluations and contract renewals - Run the product operating cadence: roadmap reviews, launch comms and ops memos, practice-facing office hours, and the cross-functional strategy forum - Work as a partner to the engineering team throughout the SDLC, from ideation through delivery and support WHO YOU ARE - A senior, hands-on “builder PM” — someone who ships working prototypes (and some production web code) with AI tools for user acceptance purposes, does their own QA, and runs their own analysis rather than routing everything through engineering and data - Someone who treats technology as a peer function, not a resource pool: you own the product and its functional direction, you do not own engineering’s time. You have a track record of working shoulder to shoulder with engineering leadership as equals with separate perspectives and a shared goal - AI-native by default: you use AI coding and analysis tools daily — that leverage is how one person covers this scope - A strong writer: POV memos, one-pagers with quantified impact models, exec-ready shareouts - Comfortable operating inside a clinical business: you can negotiate workflows with doctors, nurses, and practice managers, and you know when automation needs a human in the loop - Fluent in experimentation: you can design an A/B/n test, catch a randomization bug, and make a ship/revert call from the data - Nice-to-haves: multi-site consumer services or healthcare background, M&A and integration exposure, and familiarity with our stack (Braze, FullStory, LaunchDarkly, Vetspire) - You must be proficient in English, as the practices and teams you support are based in the United States and require communication in English. This requirement is specific to the Quebec market. WHAT YOU’LL GET - Competitive salary - Health, dental + vision insurance - Upward mobility and growth opportunities - Generous paid-time off, parental leave, and company wide holidays - Growth opportunities - An opportunity to make a real impact on the people around you - A collaborative group of people who live our core values and have your back Small Door is proudly committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace. We encourage qualified applicants of every background, ability, and life experience to apply to appropriate employment opportunities.
