Job description

Privacy is the virtual card platform giving consumers and small businesses complete control over their online payments. Our virtual cards protect 250,000+ users across the U.S., processing over $3 billion in transactions with bank-level security and encryption. From merchant-locked cards that can't be used anywhere else if stolen, to spending limits that block unauthorized charges, to one-click pausing that stops subscriptions instantly, Privacy puts financial control back in users' hands. We're building a future where every online payment is secure by default, free from data breaches, unauthorized charges, and hidden fees. We're proud to have been named one of Forbes' "Top 100 Most Customer-Centric Companies" and featured in The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, and Wirecutter. Privacy is the product that started it all. What began as Privacy.com grew into Lithic, now a Series C company backed by world-class investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Index Ventures, Spark Capital, Stripes, and Mastercard, along with many others. Our dedicated team of 35 sits at the heart of Lithic's 170+ person organization, spanning 26 states and 7 countries, headquartered in New York City. You'll work with real-time transaction processing, fraud detection, payment network integrations, and systems that need to be both fast and bulletproof. The opportunity: We're experiencing significant growth from strong product-market fit. We are at the transition point which require scaling the stack, team, and processes. You'll have the chance to work on features that directly impact over 100K users, with a modern tech stack and a team that values ownership, collaboration, and moving fast. You can expect to become an expert in card payments, solve distributed systems problems at scale, make architectural and product decisions, and mentor other engineers. The team is distributed across the US and Europe. The stack is predominantly NodeJS, DocumentDB, and hosted in AWS. What you'll do: Ensure high reliability and correctness for Privacy.com card processing Understand the challenges of the current system and propose step function changes to future architecture Drive large multi-month initiatives and roadmap. Ensure that the team is delivering reliable, secure, and scalable code. Lead efforts to improve system and processes within the team and across engineering Help drive strategic planning in collaboration with engineering, product, and cross-functional leaders. Make tradeoffs between long term investment and delivering on immediate product value Participate in team on-call rotations What you'll bring: 8+ years of experience shipping code in a fast paced production environment Experience building event-based and advanced distributed systems . Strong sense of ownership and accountability for your work Technical lead for a small team Driven large multi-month migration/re-architecturing projects Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers on distributed systems patterns and best practices Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (designers, PMs, operations) Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for learning The annual US salary range for this role is $200,000 - $220,000 plus equity.
