Job description
Standard Job Description
Your Impact:
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Palmdale, California is looking for a Full‑Stack Software Engineer Intern to power the digital backbone of the F‑35 Joint Strike Fighter Composite Fabrication and Advanced Development Program facility. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll build modern, scalable web apps with Microsoft SQL Server, .NET Core, Node.js, React / Angular, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud services turning complex production data into intuitive interfaces that streamline workflows and boost efficiency. What makes this role unique is the hands‑on collaboration with Production Operations — you’ll spend time shadowing on the shop floor and in business meetings listening for pain points to rapidly prototype solutions. Join a mission‑critical environment where your code directly supports a world‑class defense platform, benefit from top‑tier mentors, competitive compensation, and a culture that prizes innovation, safety, and impact. If you thrive at the intersection of cutting‑edge web development and aerospace manufacturing, this is your chance to make a tangible difference on the front lines of multiple programs.
Who You Are:
You are a multi-faceted teammate able to communicate and function effectively on an engineering team to create a collaborative environment that allows for the establishment of mission goals. Self-motivated and inspired, you thrive in an environment where you are empowered to work your craft, never settling for the bare minimum.
What You Will Be Doing:
1. Develop, test, deploy and support full-stack applications that enable production operations use cases.
2. Design data pipelines and database solutions to integrate manufacturing systems and automate workflow processes.
3. Build full-stack web applications to streamline data collection and management across production systems.
4. Create real-time dashboards and data visualizations that enable leadership and floor supervisors to make informed decisions.
This role involves directly interfacing with technical and non-technical users to truly understand their needs and then rapidly iterating to develop an application that they will love to use. Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
Eligibility for a U.S. security clearance and a clean background check in accordance with Defense Contractor requirements.
General Description:
Performs assignments in technical/engineering organizations (e.g., Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering) during vacations and short-term breaks from college attendance while enrolled in an accredited degree program. Typically considered a Junior.
Basic Qualifications
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• Project application experience developing full‑stack web applications using modern frameworks such as Microsoft SQL Server, React / Angular, Vue, .NET Core, or Node.js
• Familiarity with DevOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Azure DevOps)
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for deployment and scaling
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL querying, and API design (REST/GraphQL)
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non‑technical staff, gathering requirements and translating them into user‑centric software solutions
Desired Skills
• Prior work in a regulated or high‑security environment (DoD, aerospace, or defense)
• Prior work in a composites fabrication (or similar) manufacturing environment
• Proven track record of implementing user‑centered design and usability testing, turning customer feedback into iteratively refined interfaces
• Expertise in designing and maintaining ETL/Data‑pipelining solutions to ingest, transform, and load production data for analytics and reporting
• Python skills for building backend services, data‑processing pipelines, and automation scripts
• Exposure to manufacturing execution systems and industrial platforms, with hands‑on experience integrating web applications to include: SAP, Apriso, and Autotime
