Job description

THE WORLD’S LARGEST LAW FIRM WON’T BE A LAW FIRM. JOIN US IN BUILDING IT. August allows law firms to compound their expertise by building an autonomous organization of AI agents that run the firm's knowledge work. We partner closely with our firms and grow alongside them through sharing revenue on our agents and equity in the firms we transform. We believe that in five years, more than 95% of legal work will be concentrated among a select few elite law firms. The firms that get there will be the ones that rebuild how they deliver it. We're partnering with those firms and building the engine they run on to become the biggest legal service provider in the world. We invest in partnerships, not just licenses. We sell finished legal work alongside our firms and take a share of what it earns. This enables them to scale their services and lets us grow along with it. That means we’re chasing the legal services market ($1T), which dwarfs the global legal tech market ($40b). The problem is hard. An engine of agents sits underneath every matter we touch, connected to every step of a lawyer's workflow, in an industry where there is no margin for error. We’re challenged with building the perfectly accurate, infallibly secure, and yet all-powerful engine for legal work. We're already live with several excellent firms and the early results are better than we expected. Lean team, in person, New York, backed by leading investors, growing fast. Every role at August is a chance to remake an industry while the window is open. ABOUT THE ROLE As a Solutions Engineer, you will work directly with law firms to turn complex legal workflows into working AI solutions. You will embed with clients, understand their processes and technical environment, and own deployments from discovery and prototyping through integration, go-live, and adoption. This is a hands-on, client-facing role: you will run working sessions, build and test solutions, troubleshoot issues, and help people put AI to work. You should enjoy getting into the technical details as much as explaining what you’ve built to the people who will use it. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Embed with client organizations and run structured discovery across teams and practice groups, mapping workflows, systems, and data flows to identify where AI can have the greatest impact. - Work one-on-one with lawyers, paralegals, legal ops staff, and technical stakeholders to translate day-to-day pain points into clear requirements and practical solutions. - Build and test lightweight proofs-of-concept for document review, form filling, intake, drafting, redlining, and matter management, using APIs, scripts, and workflow automation tools where needed. - Configure AI workflows and connect them to client systems, working with technical teams on integrations, troubleshooting, and validation before rollout. - Run hands-on demos and training sessions that help users understand how the solutions work and adopt them in their daily practice. - Own the go-live from kickoff through adoption, coordinating technical resources on both sides and resolving issues as they arise. - Serve as a trusted technical point of contact for client stakeholders, running structured check-ins and business reviews to understand what’s working and what needs improvement. - Translate findings from deployments into actionable feedback for August’s engineering team, including reproducible issues, integration needs, and opportunities to improve the product. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - Strong technical problem-solving skills: you can break down an unfamiliar workflow, understand how its systems fit together, and build a practical solution. - Comfort writing lightweight scripts, working with APIs and structured data, and debugging integrations. Experience with Python or JavaScript is especially useful. - Strong product sense: you understand what makes a workflow painful and can translate that understanding into something people actually use. - Business acumen and clear communication: you can earn trust with a managing partner, a legal ops analyst, and a technical stakeholder, and explain complex ideas in straightforward terms. - Natural curiosity and comfort with ambiguity: you ask good questions, investigate beyond the obvious answer, and take ownership when there is no established playbook. - 1–3 years of experience in solutions engineering, implementation engineering, technical consulting, software engineering, or a similarly hands-on technical role. Experience working directly with customers is valuable; a background in law or legal services is a plus. - Familiarity with AI tools, LLM-powered applications, or workflow automation platforms such as Zapier, Make, or n8n is helpful. - Excitement about working in person at our NYC office with a team that values precision, pace, and constant reinvention. BENEFITS - Medical insurance coverage - Flexible PTO - Parental Leave - Centralized office equipment ordering for all employees - Equinox or Chelsea Piers gym membership - In-office perks: lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, and more - Budget for intra-office travel - Team-building events - Relocation support to NYC (as needed) WHY JOIN AUGUST - Founding Impact: Shape not just your role but the company. - Uncapped Upside: Competitive base + commission, early equity ownership. - Top-tier Team: Work alongside people who move fast, think clearly, and care deeply. - Category-Defining Work: Help build the first true AI agents for the legal profession. - Fast Growth: Scale your career as we scale the company. - In-person in NYC: Collaborative, talent dense and high energy environment - Global Reach: Our clients span 4 continents and use August in multiple languages and jurisdictions - Frontier of Applied AI: August has access to proprietary data inaccessible to foundation model providers. We build agents to automate all challenging knowledge work.
