About Matter
Matter is building the first nutrition platform that pairs personalized nutrition intelligence with precisely tailored meals. Think of Matter as a personal nutritionist in your pocket (the app) speaking directly to your private chef (the restaurants). Our app learns each user's goals, preferences, and health data to provide meal recommendations based on their exact nutritional needs. By closing the loop between digital health signals and healthy food preparation, Matter makes precision nutrition as easy as ordering a meal.
The Matter app sits at the center of this experience: nutrition coaching, precision ordering, AI-enabled chat and photo logging, with engagement tools to track progress and inspire action. Wearable device and biomarker integrations support a reinforcement learning cycle to better guide each user and adapt to their evolving needs.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Chief Marketing Officer to own all of marketing at Matter, with a clear first priority: building a world-class influencer marketing and UGC machine. Marketing has to win on two fronts: growing a standalone subscription app that anyone can use anywhere, and driving demand for our restaurants. Creators and real customers are how we'll tell that story at scale. You've done this before: you've built an influencer and UGC program from the ground up and scaled it into a primary growth channel. This role requires that experience.
You'll lead a team that includes an established Head of Performance Marketing, along with social, content, and creative. You'll own the budget and brand, and work alongside performance marketing to turn creator and customer content into growth across every channel. You'll work directly with the founding team and partner closely with product and operations.
Core Responsibilities
Influencer & UGC
• Build and scale Matter's influencer and creator program, from sourcing and partnerships through briefs, contracts, and payouts
• Build a UGC engine that turns customers, creators, and our community into a steady stream of content for paid, organic, and in-app use
• Develop a tiered creator strategy across fitness, nutrition, and wellness, from nano creators to marquee partners and athletes
• Work with performance marketing to test creator content in paid channels and scale what drives subscriptions and orders
• Build the systems, tools, and workflows that let a small team manage hundreds of creators and a high volume of content
• Measure creator ROI by CAC, conversion, and retention, not just reach
Strategy & Brand
• Own the full marketing strategy across brand, growth, product marketing, and lifecycle, from positioning through execution
• Define Matter's positioning, messaging, and voice, and make sure it shows up consistently across the app, the restaurants, and every channel
• Balance budget and focus between national app subscriber growth and local restaurant demand, making clear, data-backed calls on where to invest
• Be a daily user of the app and a regular in our restaurants, with firsthand knowledge of the customer experience
• Know the competitive landscape inside and out, from nutrition and fitness apps to healthy fast-casual and food brands, and use it to sharpen where Matter wins
• Set marketing OKRs and budgets tied to CAC, subscription conversion, retention, order frequency, and LTV
Growth & Channels
• Set acquisition goals and budget with performance marketing, and give the team the brand, creative, and resources to hit them
• Own lifecycle across email, push, and SMS to drive activation, trial-to-paid conversion, repeat orders, and retention
• Lead go-to-market for new app features, menu launches, and new locations
Execution & Team Leadership
• Lead and grow the marketing team with in-house talent, agencies, and freelancers as we scale
• Oversee creative direction for campaigns, content, social, and in-store experiences
• Partner with product on launches, onboarding, and in-app messaging, and with operations to make sure what we promise, the kitchen can deliver
What We're Looking For
• 8+ years of marketing experience, with at least 3 years leading marketing at a high-growth consumer brand
• Existing relationships with creators, talent managers, or agencies in fitness, nutrition, or wellness
• Personally passionate about health, wellness, and fitness; experience using macro tracking apps is a requirement
• Track record of growing a consumer subscription app, with a strong grasp of app acquisition, attribution, conversion, and retention
• Experience marketing a physical consumer brand (restaurants, food, CPG, or retail) is a plus
• Strong brand instincts paired with performance and analytical rigor
• Deeply data-driven and hands-on with attribution, analytics, and experimentation
• Uses AI tools daily in their own work, from research and copy to creative testing and data analysis, and knows how to build workflows that make a small team move faster
• Sound judgment on allocating limited budget across competing business lines
• Experience building and scaling marketing teams and processes
• Comfortable in ambiguity, with a bias toward action and limited resources
• Founder-level ownership mentality; this role will define the brand
Why Matter
• Build a product that helps people eat better, feel better, and reach their health goals every day
• Build a category-defining consumer brand from the ground up
• Direct impact on company direction and growth
• Tight collaboration with the founding team
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary range: $250,000–$375,000 base, based on experience
• Meaningful equity
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage
• Flexible PTO plus paid company holidays
• Paid parental leave
• Free Matter meals
