Job description

At Google, we "Focus on the user and all else will follow." As a Quantitative User Experience Researcher (Quant UXR), you make this possible. You will join a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating closely with Engineering and Product Management to create industry-leading, innovative products. You will drive impact at all stages of development by investigating user behavior through empirical methods like logs analysis, survey research, and regression. We value varied educational experiences—from Computer Science to Psychology—and require a blend of behavioral research design, statistical proficiency, and programming skills to uncover actionable insights. Beyond the work, you will grow within a supportive Quant UXR community offering mentorship, regular meetups, and exclusive internal tools to help you thrive. In this role, you will lead research efforts characterizing the fundamental ways in which AI is transforming data engineering workflows and to uncover high-impact opportunities that boost engineer productivity at scale. You will approach analytic challenges with an AI-native mindset, demonstrating a proven track record of innovating with advanced tools, automating research tasks, and collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams. With your analytical excellence, expertise across varied quantitative methodologies, and the ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces, you will translate complex quantitative insights and multi-step behavioral telemetry into clear, persuasive, and actionable narratives that guide critical product roadmaps and strategic engineering decisions. The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $132000 - $189000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits Learn more about benefits at Google . • Lead and execute end-to-end quantitative user research studies, including behavioral logs/telemetry analysis, experimental evaluations, and large-scale surveys to address ambiguous and high-impact product questions independently. • Apply advanced statistical modeling and computational techniques (e.g., multivariate regression, causal inference, longitudinal analysis) to large, complex, and noisy datasets using tools like SQL, Python, or R. • Advocate and scale AI-native research workflows, leveraging advanced analytics platforms to build automated analytical pipelines, custom agent skills, and self-service evaluation tooling for the team. • Drive cross-functional strategy and alignment, partnering closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leads to proactively identify research opportunities, define problem spaces, and embed quantitative excellence into product roadmaps. • Define, validate, and track novel user-centered metrics and productivity frameworks, delivering compelling data narratives that directly influence core architecture, feature prioritization, and executive decision-making. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. • 4 years of experience in product research in an applied research setting, including analyzing log data. • Experience in programming languages used for data manipulation and computational statistics (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and working with AI platforms. Minimum qualifications: • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. • 4 years of experience in product research in an applied research setting, including analyzing log data. • Experience in programming languages used for data manipulation and computational statistics (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and working with AI platforms. Preferred qualifications: • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field. • 3 years of experience working with executive leadership (e.g., Director level and above). • 2 years of experience conducting UX research on products, managing projects, and working in a large, matrixed organization. • Experience with generative AI concepts, large language model (LLM) evaluation, and agentic workflows. • Experience in applied statistics, experimental design, regression modeling, and causal inference.
