Job description

About Opal Security: At Opal, we’re building modern identity governance for the AI era—intelligent access management that empowers enterprises to move fast while staying secure. Our mission is to bring clarity, control, and confidence to complex enterprise environments, helping teams govern access without slowing down innovation. About the Role: Identity is having a moment. Every company is deploying agents, spinning up service accounts, and realizing their IAM stack can't keep up. We're building AI-native security that scales with this chaos and companies like Databricks and Figma are betting on us to get it right. You will build customer solutions across the entire stack. You'll talk directly to security and eng teams at Fortune 500s and startups alike, understand their messy reality, and architect systems that actually solve their problems. You'll own the problem, not just the solution, which means you get to be creative, challenge assumptions, and build things that don't exist yet. This is a team of people who genuinely like each other and want to work together. We value thoughtful engineering over speed-running tickets. You'll collaborate with people who have wildly different expertise, debate tradeoffs, and ship work you're proud of. Please note: We've built a team that works exceptionally well together and has fun doing so. We're looking to bring on new teammates who will both add to and grow with what we're building 🙂 Your Responsibilities: - Own critical product areas from concept to production: design and build features across our full stack, make architectural decisions, work directly with customers to validate solutions, and ensure your systems scale as we grow. - Multiply the team's impact: write code that other engineers build on top of, establish patterns that improve our velocity, share knowledge that levels up the team, and help shape how we build at Opal. Our Ideal Candidate Loves to: - Build end-to-end: you can take a customer problem, design the solution, and ship it across frontend and backend. - Think creatively: you're not a code monkey or a bot following specs. You question requirements, propose better approaches, and care about the "why" behind what you're building. - Thrive in undefined spaces: you get energized by ambiguous problems where there's no playbook. You'd rather figure out what to build than be handed a detailed spec. - Talk to customers: you want to understand who you're building for, what they need, and how Opal enables their growth and success - Explore a passion or curiosity in IAM / security Benefits & Perks - Competitive Salary - Early employee equity - Top-tier Medical, Vision, & Dental coverage - Company and team bonding trips throughout the year fully covered by Opal Security - Daily lunch & coffee allowance - Unlimited PTO - 11 company holidays - One Medical Membership - 401k plan - Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits This role is based in San Francisco. Remote optional Research shows that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds rarely apply unless they meet all the job criteria. We aren’t looking for someone who ticks every single box on a page; we’re looking for lifelong learners and people who can make us better with their unique experiences. If you think you’d be a great fit, then please get in touch to tell us about yourself. Opal is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
