Job description

Overview Microsoft is a company where passionate innovators come to collaborate, envision what can be and take their careers further. This is a world of more possibilities, more innovation, more openness, and the sky is the limit thinking in a cloud-enabled world. Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture. The Databases organization delivers trusted, scalable operational AI ready databases that power application development across cloud, hybrid, and on premises environments. Our portfolio includes SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, supporting developers as they build AI native applications and run critical workloads at global scale. Are you excited about the opportunity to help redefine how software organizations work of AI? We are entering a period where AI can change more than how individual engineering tasks are performed. It can change how organizations turn ideas into products, respond to customers, operate services, learn from outcomes, and continuously improve. The Azure PostgreSQL Database Services team is building toward this future. We envision a new operating model where people establish goals, direction, and boundaries, while AI agents increasingly take responsibility for carrying work across the organization, from understanding an opportunity and developing a plan through engineering, delivery, operations, and learning. People remain central to judgment, creativity, leadership, and accountability, while agents help the organization move with greater speed, continuity, and scale. We are looking for a Software Engineer to help make this vision real. You will design and build the foundational systems that enable agents to understand organizational context, collaborate with people and other agents, use tools and systems safely, execute complex work, learn from outcomes, and operate reliably at scale. This is an opportunity to work on a new class of systems at the intersection of AI, software engineering, distributed systems, and cloud platforms, and to help shape how software organizations themselves evolve in the AI era. About the Team: We are a highly collaborative engineering team working across Azure PostgreSQL, AI, developer experience, and cloud systems. Our work spans database systems, intelligent application development, developer tools and experiences, and new AI-powered approaches to building and operating software. We work on ambitious technical problems that cross traditional boundaries between databases, distributed systems, cloud platforms, developer infrastructure, and AI. We value deep technical thinking, rapid experimentation, and turning promising ideas into systems that can operate reliably at scale. You will work alongside engineers with expertise across these areas and have the opportunity to help shape both the technology we build and how we build it. We do not just value differences or different perspectives. We seek them out and invite them in so we can tap into the collective power of everyone in the company. As a result, our customers are better served. Responsibilities • Design, build, and deliver AI-powered systems and platforms that enable new ways of developing, delivering, and operating software. • Build foundational capabilities that enable AI systems to understand context, plan and execute complex work, use tools, retain knowledge, and collaborate with people and other AI systems. • Design and build the distributed systems and cloud infrastructure required to run AI-driven workloads reliably, securely, and efficiently at scale. • Integrate AI capabilities with products, engineering systems, and workflows to solve real problems for developers and engineering teams. • Drive features from design through implementation and production, including architecture, quality, reliability, security, observability, and operational readiness. • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, researchers, and partner teams to explore new ideas, make sound technical decisions, and turn advances in AI into useful product capabilities. • Contribute to the technical direction of the team through design and code reviews, engineering best practices, and mentoring other engineers. • Others :- Embody our culture and values Qualifications Required Qualifications • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or Rust • OR equivalent experience. Additional Job Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications • Experience designing, building, and delivering scalable, production-grade software systems or cloud services. • Strong technical fundamentals in areas such as distributed systems, concurrency, cloud architecture, or backend systems. • Demonstrated ability to own complex technical problems, make sound design decisions, and drive solutions from design through production. • Experience building AI-powered applications, agentic systems, or developer platforms. • Experience with distributed systems, workflow engines, schedulers, stateful services, or large-scale cloud infrastructure. • Experience designing platforms, APIs, SDKs, or extensibility systems used by other developers. • Experience with identity, authorization, isolation, multi-tenancy, or secure execution environments. • Demonstrated technical leadership, mentorship, and effectiveness working across engineering and product teams. Passion for pushing the boundaries of what AI can do and turning advances in AI into reliable, real-world products and engineering systems. #azdat #azuredata #postgres #aisystems Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year.
