Job description

Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, the #1 cause of death worldwide, using cutting-edge technology. The flagship product—an AI-driven, non-invasive cardiac test supported by the ACC/AHA Chest Pain Guidelines called the Heartflow FFR CT Analysis—provides a color-coded, 3D model of a patient’s coronary arteries indicating the impact blockages have on blood flow to the heart. Heartflow is the first AI-driven non-invasive integrated heart care solution across the CCTA pathway that helps clinicians identify stenoses in the coronary arteries (RoadMap™Analysis), assess coronary blood flow (FFR CT Analysis), and characterize and quantify coronary atherosclerosis (Plaque Analysis). Our pipeline of products is growing and so is our team; join us in helping to revolutionize precision heartcare. Heartflow is a publicly traded company (HTFL) that has received international recognition for exceptional strides in healthcare innovation, is supported by medical societies around the world, cleared for use in the US, UK, Europe, Japan and Canada, and has been used for more than 750,000 patients worldwide. We are seeking a collaboratively-minded Senior Software Engineer with a foundation in statistical data analysis and algorithm development. In this role, you will lead high-impact projects in a regulated medical environment to deepen our understanding of how real-world imaging conditions impact algorithm accuracy and reproducibility. If you are passionate about directly contributing to patient outcomes and have a track record of driving new data-centric product initiatives, we look forward to reading your application. What You'll Do: Build robust analytical pipelines and visualizations over population-scale data to characterize dataset distributions and algorithm performance across diverse patient populations. Translate findings about data variance and algorithm behavior into actionable requirements and algorithmic design recommendations. Formulate data annotation protocols for internal product development and FDA submissions. Collaborate cross-functionally with Research, Product, Clinical, and Engineering to transform clinical needs into cloud-based software solutions. Lead regulatory submission efforts, ensuring that software components comply with relevant regulations by working closely with quality and regulatory teams. Lead technical projects from conception to deployment. Foster team growth through technical leadership and knowledge sharing. Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across distributed systems, often under time constraints. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Master's or Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related quantitative field. 5+ years (or 3+ with a PhD) of industry experience in Data Science, Biomedical Signal Analysis, or Biomedical Image Analysis. Expert proficiency in Python and statistical data analysis ecosystems (e.g., pandas, bokeh, statsmodels, or other similar libraries). Proven experience working with large, complex, and messy datasets. Strong interpersonal communicator comfortable with presenting results and recommendations to stakeholders. Team-oriented mindset that finds satisfaction in collaborating on difficult problems and providing mentorship. Proven experience with regulatory submissions, developing medical software in FDA, MDR, or similarly regulated environments. Experience in image processing, computer vision, or 3D computational geometry. Demonstrated experience with software development best practices: testing, CI/CD, and agile methodologies. Proficiency with orchestration tools, like GitHub Actions, and navigation of Linux systems using the CLI. Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across applications, networks, and cloud environments. How To Stand Out: Experience collaborating directly with Product and Research teams to develop software solutions addressing real-world medical challenges. Deep knowledge of statistical methods, image optimization techniques, and advanced visualization tools. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and data security best practices in healthcare. Contributions to open-source projects or publications in relevant technical or clinical fields. If you don't tick every box, don't count yourself out! Our team cares more about finding enthusiastic people than it does ticking boxes, so if this post speaks to you, please apply. Why Join Us: You will work on products that directly improve patient care and clinical outcomes, tackling complex challenges with a team of fellow healthcare technology enthusiasts. Join our team to advance healthcare technology, lead innovative projects, and grow professionally in a collaborative and dynamic setting. A reasonable estimate of the base salary compensation range is $180,000 to $215,000, bonus, and equity. #LI-IB1 Heartflow is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
