Job description

THE ROLE Financial software runs underneath the biggest decisions people make. When it's good, it saves real money over the years. When it's not, those losses compound just as quietly. Most of it was built to capture value, not create it. Neo is building the alternative. As a Senior / Staff React Native Developer, you will own the experience that millions of Canadians interact with daily. We don't build wrappers or standard CRUD apps; we build ultra-responsive, highly secure, and visually flawless mobile experiences from the ground up. You will set the technical direction for our React Native architecture, bridge the gap between JS and native modules when performance demands it, and mentor engineers who are obsessed with shipping world-class code. Our engineering teams are small by design. You'll work closely with product and design to turn complex financial mechanics into seamless, high-performance interactions. WHY NEO - Small teams with real ownership: You are not managing a function inside a function. You own your services and clients end-to-end—from architecture decisions and schema design through to production. There is no separate QA or DevOps team to hand work off to; the autonomy to execute is entirely yours. - World-class toolset: No compromises on tooling. We treat cutting-edge tech and AI as force multipliers. You get full access to Cursor, Claude with unlimited tokens, CodeRabbit, GitHub Enterprise, Datadog, Snowflake, and AWS. MacBook Pros are standard issue—no justification required. - Top-tier compensation: Competitive salaries that beat the top tech companies in Canada. This role is eligible for our Short-Term Incentive Program (STIP) with cash bonuses tied directly to company milestones. - Generous equity: All team members receive equity through stock options that are in the money from day one. Over four to five years, total compensation at Neo outpaces what you’d make staying where you are. - Unmatched career velocity: Engineers at Neo should be able to walk into a lead or management role at any company in Canada after serious time here. That’s the standard we hold. - Proven hyper-growth: Three consecutive years as Canada’s fastest-growing company on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50™. We have raised $400M+ and serve over one million customers on a platform built entirely in-house. - Relocation & Benefits: Full relocation support is available for candidates moving to Calgary. We provide comprehensive health benefits from day one, 21 days PTO, and a maternity/paternity leave salary top-up. - Top-rated experiences: Our platform is consistently high-rated on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, reflecting our commitment to quality and user satisfaction. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: - Architect & Scale: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable frontend applications using React Native for iOS, Android, and Web. - DX Tooling: Improve and maintain developer experience tooling to ensure our engineering teams can ship high-quality code at speed. - Drive Performance: Optimize app performance, render times, and memory leaks. You know how to thread native code (Swift/Kotlin) into the React Native ecosystem when JavaScript hits a bottleneck. - Ship End-to-End: Write clean, modular, and highly testable code. You own your features from initial architectural design through deployment to the App Store and Google Play. - Technical Leadership: Set the standard for mobile engineering excellence. You will lead technical design reviews, champion automated testing (unit, integration, and e2e), and mentor junior/intermediate developers. - Minimize Friction: Help optimize processes. Stay close enough to the codebase to maintain absolute technical credibility while operating at a strategic level. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: - The Experience: You have at least 7 years of software engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on building and scaling complex production mobile applications. - The Tech Stack: You have deep, production-proven expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React Native. Familiarity with native mobile development (iOS/Swift or Android/Kotlin) is highly valued2. - Architecture Mindset: You understand state management at scale, mobile security best practices (storage, biometrics, cryptography), and how to build resilient offline-first or highly cached experiences. - High Ownership: You care about the product, not just the code. You have a track record of shipping beautiful consumer experiences and iterating based on real-world data. - On-Site Collaboration: You thrive in a high-intensity, high-growth environment and are excited to collaborate in person daily at our Calgary headquarters. 🚀 TOTAL REWARDS As Neo continues to grow, we’re committed to offering a competitive, market-leading rewards program that reflects the impact our team members make. In addition to salary, our program includes equity — empowering employees to share directly in our momentum today and in the meaningful value we create for years to come. - Salary: We provide a strong base salary aligned with market ranges, along with the flexibility to tailor your mix of cash and equity to match your longer term goals. Final compensation is based on your skills, experience, and scope. For exceptional talent, we’re prepared to go above and beyond. - Equity Ownership (Where Eligible): At Neo, you don’t just work here, you own a piece of what we’re building. As a full-time team member, you share directly in the upside of one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies. When we win, you win — with real ownership and meaningful long-term wealth-building potential tied to our success.
