Job description

CommodityAI At CommodityAI, we build software that supports the movement of millions of tons of raw commodities like sugar, cocoa, and coffee around the world. Our trading and operations management platform serves as a system of record, powered by AI automation that eliminates the friction points in operating a physical trading and distribution business. Why Join Us? We are a YC-backed (W24 batch) that is driving AI adoption within physical commodity trading. As our first hire outside the founding team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of our product and company. You'll work closely with a hands-on founding team, directly influencing our technology, strategy, and market impact. If you're looking for a role where you can make a difference and be part of something big, this is it. Who are you? We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to join us as the first hire outside of our founding team. In addition to providing technical leadership, our CTO and Head of Engineering are merging code daily and leading the way in development. You’ll be right there with us, working across all parts of our product. You won’t just code — you’ll make decisions, own features, and help drive our tech and product forward. We need someone exceptional — not just great at coding, but with a deep interest in solving real-world problems. You'll need to make intelligent trade-offs and decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term goals, knowing how to move fast without breaking what matters. If you can take ownership, drive initiatives, and make smart decisions that align with the realities of a startup environment, this is the place for you. You’ve explored the depths of big problems, and you’re recognized as a leader in your space. You’re driven by curiosity and a desire to understand complex challenges, and you’re looking for a new opportunity to apply your skills in a way that truly makes an impact. You have a motor — a relentless drive to get things done — and you produce high-quality code at a fast pace. Qualifications • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of exceptional work. • Outstanding coding skills and the ability to quickly master new languages or frameworks. • Familiarity with tools and technologies like React, TypeScript, Go, Java, Mongo, Node, SQL, and Python is a plus. • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions and offer clear, strategic recommendations. • Demonstrated expertise and depth in a specific domain, with a curiosity that drives you to explore and understand the complexities and nuances of the problems you work on. • Genuine passion for tackling complex problems and an authentic interest in the commodities trading or logistics space. • Ready to engage with customers daily and make meaningful contributions to their implementations. Benefits • Competitive salary • Meaningful equity in a rapidly growing company. • Flexible working arrangements, with a hybrid office schedule • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance. • Opportunity to shape the future of an old-school yet existentially vital industry to the world. • A collaborative and fast-paced environment where your work has consequence and impact.
