Job description
Facilities Management eXpress is looking for an Engineer Manager to join our team!
At FMX, our Engineering Managers have a direct impact on our product, our people, and our culture. As manager of a Core Team, you’ll coach and mentor a talented group of software engineers, give them clarity on priorities and expectations, and help them grow technically and professionally while delivering high-quality software for our customers. You’ll partner closely with product, design, QA, and other engineering leaders to align your team’s work with business goals and build a healthy, high-performing, inclusive engineering culture.
This is a player-coach role. We want a manager who still loves to build: someone who stays close to the code, picks up bugs and non-mission-critical work alongside the team, and leads by example. You’ll also help shape how FMX builds software in an AI-first world, setting the practices, tools, and standards that help our engineers ship faster without lowering the bar on quality.
What You’ll Do:
• Lead and grow your team: Give every engineer clarity on their role, responsibilities, goals, and the team’s processes, and clearly communicate changes to practices, priorities, and expectations. Provide regular coaching, feedback, and career guidance, and advocate for each person’s professional and technical growth.
• Build a strong culture: Foster trust, accountability, and continuous improvement, where engineers feel valued, heard, and connected to FMX’s mission. Keep the team engaged with challenging, meaningful problems and help them see the customer impact of their work.
• Clear the path: Actively remove blockers so the team works efficiently with minimal friction.
• Stay technical: Keep a strong understanding of your team’s systems so you can guide architecture decisions and unblock engineers directly. Champion operational excellence, including observability, CI/CD health, and production readiness.
• Drive AI-first development: Evaluate, adopt, and set standards for AI-assisted coding, code review, and testing tools.
• Shape the bigger picture: Contribute to engineering leadership discussions, decisions, and process evolution; partner with product and design leads on priorities and long-term vision; and help hiring teams identify, recruit, and onboard top engineering talent.
What we're looking for:
• 2-4 years of engineering management or technical leadership experience, and prior experience as a software engineer, ideally in SaaS.
• A builder’s mindset: you still enjoy writing code and will regularly contribute fixes, features, and triage work that isn’t mission-critical.
• Hands-on experience with AI-first development (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, agentic workflows) and a point of view on best practices you can teach others.
• This role requires working Eastern Time hours to join daily team meetings, so candidates should be based in or able to work on Eastern Time.
• A proven ability to coach and grow engineers at every career stage, with strong, empathetic, and clear communication.
• Experience improving engineering processes and development workflows, plus familiarity with agile practices and cross-functional collaboration.
• The ability to think strategically while attending to the details of day-to-day execution.
• A passion for building inclusive, psychologically safe teams that value continuous learning and an excellent developer experience.
• Enthusiasm for FMX’s mission and alignment with our core pillars: Teamwork, Excellence, and Integrity.
Nice to Have:
• Native mobile experience (Swift or Kotlin)
• Cloud infrastructure experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform
• Containerization with Docker
• CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance
• Observability (logging, metrics, traces, and alerting) or SIEM experience
Our Tech Stack:
• .NET / C#
• React and TypeScript
• React Native
• Azure
The Hiring Process:
• 1. Apply! Submit your resume and brief application questions directly through our Workable portal to get started.
• 2. PeopleOps Phone Screen (30 min) A introductory conversation to dive into your background, introduce you to FMX culture, and clarify core role expectations. This is also your chance to ask about compensation, benefits, and life at FMX.
• 3. Hiring Manager Conversation (60 min) An in-depth chat with our Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Come ready to discuss your experience, career goals, and ideal next steps, as well as to ask detailed questions about team dynamics and role expectations.
• 4. Final Interview (60 min) A panel and peer interview designed to introduce you to key team members and explore technical alignment and collaborative fit.
• 5. Offer & Onboarding Once an offer is extended, we’ll initiate a standard background check to complete your onboarding process.
FMX Benefits & Life at FMX:
• Make a big impact: You’ll have significant influence over the direction and future of our engineering teams, flagship product and company. We are scaling rapidly and there is a lot of room for advancement.
• Enjoy a collaborative culture and a close-knit team: We're a team of hard-working, high-fiving, friendly folks. We take collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement, and work/life balance seriously.
• Get to hire and work with the best: We believe in building high-quality, well-designed products and that requires the best talent. You’ll have the opportunity to work with and grow a highly-talented team.
• Learn and grow in your role and outside it: At FMX, we’re committed to improving our professional and personal selves. We bring in industry-experts as our advisors, provide leadership training, invest in team-building activities, and have a training budget and incentive program. Our Engineering team also dedicates 10% of their time to learning or working on projects that interest them.
• Enjoy flexible working hours: Have a dentist appointment at 8:30 AM? Need to tack on an extra 15 minutes at lunch to squeeze in that workout? As long as you're getting your work done then our working hours are flexible.
• Work from home: At FMX we are remote first, but you’re welcome to use our office as you need. We have two all-company events a year to ensure that you can put a face to that name and establish high-trust relationships with your teammates and co-workers. When you’re in the office, you can take advantage of our free snacks, beverages, and office kegerator.
