Job description

ABOUT US Medical data exchange is one of the biggest unsolved problems in US healthcare. If you've spent any real time in the healthcare system, you've felt it, and it only gets worse the sicker and older you get. Metriport exists to fix that. We connect to the data sources the healthcare providers of tomorrow need, take raw data that's unusable in its source form, and turn it into a single clean format that care teams, and their agents, actually use to improve outcomes. Record retrieval across thousands of legacy systems and antiquated data pipes that used to take weeks now takes seconds. Clinicians walk into appointments with the full patient picture already in hand, and that speed can mean spotting a condition early enough to actually treat it. We're not a healthcare company. We're a technology company that happens to operate in healthcare, and we build every layer ourselves: connect, transform, and insight. Legacy EHRs were built to get providers paid, not to serve the clinical experience. We're building what should have existed instead: the system of record for all of US healthcare. We started in data exchange. Today we compete with the largest data platforms in the space. Tomorrow we will be the infrastructure layer healthcare runs on. We’ve raised $28.4 million from top tier VCs (including Matrix, ARTIS and Y Combinator), found product market fit (multi million dollar ARR, 100+ customers including Amazon One Medical, Circle Medical, Color Health, and Strive Health), and have years of runway ahead of us. If you’ve had a good healthcare experience in the past few years, there’s a good chance Metriport was behind it. That’s the version of healthcare we want people to not just expect, but demand. Join us and build the future. About You We're a small, high output team, mostly former founders including YC alumni, and we operate with real autonomy and almost no bureaucracy. We hire on competence, not pedigree. Leaders are in the office six days a week, and we generally expect the team to be available six days a week too. Not because we count hours, but because there's always more wood to chop when revolutionizing how tomorrow’s healthcare providers deliver care to their patients today. We trust our team to take the time off they need and we've never said no to a time off request. You have an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong sense of ownership. You don't wait to be told what's broken. Instead, you believe you can figure out any problem that lands in your lap even outside your exact domain. When someone scopes something for three weeks, you ask why it can't be done in three days, and you also know the difference between shipping a fast v0 and cutting a corner that comes back to bite you. You walk the tightrope between craft and speed without falling off either side. THE ROLE You're obsessed with automating repetitive tasks, your first instinct when you see a manual process is "how do I make this run by itself?" At Metriport, you'll own the internal tooling that keeps our company moving fast. You'll spot the friction, build the fix, and ship it without waiting to be asked. - You're entrepreneurial minded, with the drive to push work forward even when it's not anyone else's top priority. - You have strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable working directly with stakeholders across Eng, Ops, and business teams to understand their needs and translate them into working solutions. - You're a hacker at heart, you get excited about wiring together services that weren't built to talk to each other, and you know how to make it work securely and at scale. - You keep security top of mind. We work with sensitive healthcare data, and you treat that seriously, vetting third party integrations, applying least privilege thinking, and never cutting corners that could expose PHI. - You follow the AI tooling space closely and try to use it to solve real business problems, but you have the judgment to know what's appropriate for an enterprise context and what's a hard no. - You care about outcomes over elegance. A Slack bot that saves the Ops team an hour a day is worth more than a perfect abstraction nobody uses. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING After ramping up on our internal tools and workflows, you'll own the systems that make our teams more efficient and more secure. Day to day, this looks like: - Automating cross functional processes: many of our internal processes are still manual and error prone; you'll work with non engineering functions at Metriport to automate away their friction within the company - Building Automations End to End: Designing and shipping integrations between our internal and third party systems from scoping the requirement with a stakeholder, to deploying a working solution, to making sure it doesn't break quietly. - Improving Developer Experience and Onboarding: Automating local environment setup for new engineers, improving CICD speed, reducing the time to production from hours to minutes. - Evaluating and Adopting New Tools: Researching integration platforms (Zapier, n8n, Make, etc.) and AI productivity tools, working with the Security team to assess their security posture, and rolling them out in a way that meets our compliance requirements. - Reporting: Automating recurring reports by pulling from AWS Athena, REST APIs, and other data sources so the team gets accurate data without manual effort every month. - Team alignment: Participating in a daily 30 minute remote standup at 7:30 AM PST Mon–Fri (our only regular mandatory meeting). REQUIREMENTS - 5+ years of experience in a software engineering, automation, or internal tools role ideally at a startup where you wore multiple hats. - TypeScript proficiency: Our entire stack is TypeScript. You write clean, maintainable TS without hand holding. - React proficiency: Our internal operations tool is React based. You can build and extend UI components to surface new workflows. - Integration experience: Hands on experience connecting APIs, webhooks, and third party services. You deeply understand REST, OAuth, mTLS, websockets and other integration technologies and know when and how to use them. - Security aware mindset: You understand what it means to handle sensitive data responsibly — secrets management, scoped permissions, secure credential storage. You don't need to be told to think about this. - Self directed: You're comfortable working on projects where you're the only one tracking progress. You create urgency for yourself. - Location: San Francisco / Bay Area (or willing to relocate). NICE TO HAVE - Experience building internal dashboards, admin tooling, or ops automation in a B2B SaaS environment. - Familiarity with our tooling ecosystem: AWS (Athena, Lambda, etc.), Slack, GitHub Actions, Pylon, PostHog, GSuite. - Experience with integration platforms like Zapier, n8n, or Make. - Exposure to healthcare data (FHIR, HL7, PHI handling) understanding the stakes is a significant advantage. - Experience using LLMs or AI agents to automate workflows (prompt engineering, API integration, tool use). BENEFITS - Competitive equity + compensation package 🚀 - Full family Platinum health insurance, dental, and vision coverage 🦷 - 401(k) retirement plan + matching 💰 - Flexible work from home or in office 🏢 - Healthy lunches are complimentary when working in office (and breakfast + dinners as needed) 🍏 - MacBook provided by us 💻 - Unlimited PTO (we work hard, but trust you to take time you need to be at your best) 🧘‍♂️ OUR TECH On the frontend, we use React on the backend, we rely on Node.js and TypeScript for writing core business logic. We deploy a wide range of AWS cloud services (ie ECS, Fargate, Lambda, etc), and manage our infrastructure as code with AWS CDK. Data lives in PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, Snowflake, FHIR server, and more. Our Ops teams use the main tools/services used by successful startups. We are looking for a generalist who can help us scale the company. Metriport provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and abilities.
