Job description

WHAT IS BOX? Box (NYSE:BOX) is the leader in Intelligent Content Management. Our platform enables organizations to fuel collaboration, manage the entire content lifecycle, secure critical content, and transform business workflows with enterprise AI. We help companies thrive in the new AI-first era of business. Founded in 2005, Box simplifies work for leading global organizations, including JLL, Morgan Stanley, and Nationwide. Box is headquartered in Redwood City, CA, with offices across the United States, Europe, and Asia. By joining Box, you will have the unique opportunity to continue driving our platform forward. Content powers how we work. It’s the billions of files and information flowing across teams, departments, and key business processes every single day: contracts, invoices, employee records, financials, product specs, marketing assets, and more. Our mission is to bring intelligence to the world of content management and empower our customers to completely transform workflows across their organizations. With the combination of AI and enterprise content, the opportunity has never been greater to transform how the world works together and at Box you will be on the front lines of this massive shift. WHY BOX NEEDS YOU Box's Tax team is growing, and we're looking for a Senior Tax Accountant to own our indirect tax function. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert for sales and use tax across Box's US and global operations — ensuring compliance, driving process improvements, and partnering cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and Revenue Operations to support the business as it scales. You will work in a collaborative, high-impact environment where your expertise directly shapes how Box manages its indirect tax obligations. This is an opportunity to bring both technical depth and strategic thinking to a team that values accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement. WHAT YOU'LL DO Manage end-to-end sales and use tax compliance, including preparation, review, and timely filing of returns across all applicable US jurisdictions. Research and analyze indirect tax issues, including nexus determinations, taxability of products and services, and exemption certificate management. Partner with Revenue Operations and Billing to ensure accurate tax calculation and collection within Box's billing systems and CPQ tools. Support indirect tax audits by preparing documentation, responding to notices, and coordinating with external advisors as needed. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in sales and use tax law and assess their impact on Box's business operations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including Legal, Finance, and Product — to advise on indirect tax implications of new products, business initiatives, and go-to-market strategies. Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to increase efficiency and accuracy across the indirect tax compliance cycle. WHO YOU ARE We are an AI-first company. This means you approach your work with a growth mindset and find ways to leverage AI to help make faster, smarter decisions that will 10X your impact at Box. You have 4+ years of experience in indirect tax, with a focus on US sales and use tax compliance, ideally including experience with software or SaaS sales tax implications; Big Four or public company experience is a plus, though not required. You have hands-on experience with tax technology platforms such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar automated tax calculation tools. You bring strong analytical skills and the ability to research complex tax issues, interpret statutes and regulations, and translate findings into clear, actionable guidance. You have experience working with ERP and billing systems (e.g., Salesforce, NetSuite, or Zuora) and understand how indirect tax integrates into the order-to-cash process. You are detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage recurring compliance deadlines and ad hoc priorities in a fast-moving environment, and you are eager to grow and develop within the role over time.
