Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters. Ford’s  Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD)  team is charged with delivering the company’s vision of a fully electric transportation future. EVDD is customer-obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data-driven and is dedicated to delivering industry-leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. You’ll join an agile team of doers pioneering our EV future by working collaboratively, staying focused on only what matters, and delivering excellence day in and day out. Join us to make positive changes by helping build a better world where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams. You’ll have true end to end ownership—designing, building, deploying, and operating scalable microservices on modern cloud infrastructure like Kubernetes and AWS/GCP. If you want your work to run on a global scale, have real world impact, and are up to the challenge of enterprise-level complexity, this is a chance to build technology that literally moves the world. • Unrivaled Scale & Real-World Impact (The "Cool Factor") : Many companies talk about "scale," but few can match the physical and digital footprint of Ford. In this role, your code will power the Ford Connected Vehicle Cloud Platform, which connects over 26 million vehicles worldwide (and counting). • Modern Tech Stack & True End-to-End Ownership : This isn't a maintenance job for a legacy monolith. You will be building and operating cutting-edge, cloud-native architectures using a modern stack: Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka, and multi-cloud environments (AWS & GCP). • Startup Culture with Enterprise-Grade Stability & Benefits: As part of the Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team, you get the best of both worlds: the fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and customer-obsessed culture of a tech startup, backed by the robust financial stability and world-class benefits of a global giant. What you'll do... • • Architect & Code: Design, develop, maintain, and support multiple mission-critical cloud platform components and APIs that power Ford’s connected vehicle ecosystem. • Own End-to-End Delivery: Take ownership of software services from initial design to deployment and production operations on modern cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP & Kubernetes). • Scale & Optimize: Build high-performance, resilient, and event-driven microservices capable of handling massive, real-time data streams. • Drive Engineering Excellence: Champion clean code, Test-Driven Development (TDD), robust API design, and comprehensive load/performance testing to ensure ultra-high reliability. • Collaborate & Innovate: Partner closely with product managers, technical leaders, and cross-functional teams in an agile environment to translate complex requirements into production-ready solutions. • Monitor & Maintain : Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and performance-management strategies to ensure system health and adhere to strict SLAs. You'll have... • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science , Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience). • Experience: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, developing, and operating high-performance, cloud-based platforms and microservices. • Core Tech Stack : 5+ years in roles requiring proven expertise in Java and Spring Boot. • Cloud & Containers : 5+ years in roles hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes). • Data & Messaging: 5+ years' experience building event-driven systems using Kafka (or cloud equivalents like Pub/Sub) and working with relational/non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL). • DevOps & CI/CD : 5+ years demonstrating technical proficiency with modern DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, ArgoCD , SonarQube) to ensure secure and efficient delivery. • Testing & Quality: 5+ years' experience in roles demonstrating a strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable code with experience in TDD and API performance/load testing. Even better, you may have... • Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. • Experience with advanced GCP/AWS cloud-native tools (e.g., Cloud Run, Spanner, Cloud Functions, Cloud Scheduler, GKE/EKS, Terraform). • Deep understanding of API gateway technologies (e.g., Apigee, Tyk ) and protocols ( gRPC , WebSockets , REST, JSON). • Experience with GitOps and advanced deployment strategies (e.g., Canary deployments, Tekton , ArgoCD ). • Experience supporting critical, "always-on" applications in high-throughput, low-latency production environments. • Ability to make data-informed architectural decisions, even when dealing with imperfect or incomplete data. You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply! As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home?
