This position plays a critical role in modernizing plant-floor systems, improving manufacturing efficiency, and enhancing operational visibility through the development of SCADA, HMI, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), industrial data historians, and real-time reporting solutions.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of industrial control systems knowledge, software development, database expertise, and manufacturing operations experience. This individual will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and IT teams to develop scalable, reliable solutions that improve equipment performance, production efficiency, safety, and data-driven decision-making.
A key focus of this position is developing and supporting solutions using the Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA platform, particularly Ignition Perspective, which serves as the organization's standardized SCADA technology.
Key Responsibilities
SCADA, MES & Industrial Systems Development
• Design, develop, configure, and deploy SCADA, HMI, MES, and industrial information management solutions supporting manufacturing operations.
• Build and enhance applications using Ignition SCADA and Ignition Perspective, including visualization interfaces, tag configurations, scripting, and operational dashboards.
• Develop real-time manufacturing data collection, historian, reporting, and visualization solutions to improve operational performance.
• Create and maintain database integrations, SQL queries, stored procedures, and data structures supporting manufacturing applications.
• Develop custom scripts and automation logic using Python or similar programming languages.
• Integrate plant-floor applications with industrial control systems, production equipment, databases, and enterprise applications.
• Configure and support PLC-related solutions, including programming and communication configurations, where appropriate.
Manufacturing Systems Optimization
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and IT teams to identify opportunities for process improvements, system enhancements, and automation.
• Translate manufacturing requirements into scalable technical solutions that improve production efficiency, safety, equipment performance, and operational visibility.
• Evaluate existing systems and recommend enhancements to improve reliability, functionality, and user experience.
• Develop solutions that support production monitoring, performance tracking, process control, and operational decision-making.
• Apply industrial automation standards and software development best practices to ensure maintainable, secure, and reliable systems.
Systems Support & Troubleshooting
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance for plant-floor applications and industrial control systems.
• Diagnose and resolve issues involving SCADA applications, HMIs, databases, system integrations, and PLC communications.
• Collaborate with IT, Engineering, Maintenance, and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
• Support production-critical systems through a 24/7 on-call availability requirement, including after-hours troubleshooting when necessary.
• Identify recurring system issues and implement long-term improvements to increase reliability and reduce operational disruptions.
Project Management & Technical Collaboration
• Lead and coordinate operations technology projects from requirements gathering through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
• Develop implementation plans that minimize production interruptions and account for operational risks.
• Manage project timelines, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder communications.
• Maintain a prioritized backlog of system enhancements and development opportunities aligned with business and operational needs.
• Create technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, user guides, and training materials.
• Train and support plant personnel on newly developed applications, system enhancements, and operational technology.
• Contribute to enterprise standards, reusable development practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing systems.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field, with relevant technical experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Operations Systems, Industrial Control Systems, or related industrial automation technologies.
• Candidates without a bachelor's degree must have at least 5 years of experience in Industrial Control Systems or a manufacturing environment.
• Experience developing or supporting SCADA, HMI, MES, historian, or industrial reporting applications.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, control system architecture, and plant-floor technology.
• Experience with relational databases, including SQL queries, tables, views, stored procedures, and reporting.
• Ability to develop software applications or scripting logic using Python or similar programming languages.
• Understanding of PLC architecture, programming concepts, control logic, and industrial communications.
• Experience with hardware/software configuration, system integration, and technical troubleshooting.
• Ability to translate operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate technical projects.
• Ability to work collaboratively with manufacturing operations, engineering, maintenance, and IT stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in 24/7 on-call support.
• Ability to travel approximately 5–10% as required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Hands-on development experience with Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA, particularly the Ignition Perspective module.
• Experience developing Ignition applications, including tag configuration, scripting, visualization, dashboards, and database connectivity.
• Experience implementing and supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
• Experience with industrial historians, production data collection, and manufacturing analytics.
• Strong SQL development skills and experience integrating manufacturing applications with relational databases.
• Experience developing industrial automation scripts using Python or Ignition's scripting environment.
• Experience with PLC programming, industrial communication protocols, and controls integration.
• Background supporting automated food manufacturing, processing, packaging, or other high-volume production environments.
• Experience integrating SCADA/MES platforms with ERP systems and other enterprise applications.
