Job description

ENVENTION has an immediate need for a mid-level DevOps and System Administration Engineer to join our team supporting development and deployment infrastructure for the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS). This role offers the opportunity to build, automate, and manage the underlying platform environments that power transformative air defense software. You’ll tackle complex infrastructure challenges across physical, virtual, and cloud environments, collaborating closely with software and test teams to shape the future of Army Air Defense. This position isn’t just about keeping servers running; it’s about building automated, robust CI/CD ecosystems that empower developers to deliver mission-critical defense capabilities rapidly and reliably. Your Role and Responsibilities: • Automate Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline software builds, automated testing, and deployment workflows. • System Administration: Provide continuous administration, configuration, and monitoring across physical, virtualized, and cloud-based development environments. • Infrastructure Automation: Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and configuration management tools to automate environment provisioning and continuous system maintenance. • Multi-Platform Management: Support software development teams across heterogeneous hardware environments, including bare-metal physical servers, virtual machines, and cloud environments. • Pipeline Optimization: Identify process bottlenecks, improve build times, and integrate automated code quality and security tools into the developer pipeline. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside software engineers, systems engineers, and testers to deliver stable, repeatable environments for continuous integration. What You Bring: • DevOps Mastery: Proven ability to design and manage CI/CD pipelines with modern orchestration and automation tools. • System Administration Skills: Deep understanding of Linux/Windows system administration, networking, and environment configuration. • Platform Flexibility: Hands-on experience managing physical laboratory hardware, hypervisors (virtual environments), and cloud infrastructure. • Automation Mindset: Passion for eliminating manual operational tasks through scripting (Python, Bash, Shell) and IaC tools. • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent diagnostic skills for resolving complex environment, build network, and deployment configuration issues. Why This Role is Unique: • Impact: Build the automation infrastructure that accelerates delivery for a program redefining U.S. Army air defense. • Challenge: Solve complex multi-platform environment challenges combining legacy physical systems with modern virtual and cloud architectures. • Growth: Develop advanced technical skills in secure DevSecOps pipelines, automated provisioning, and cloud/hybrid infrastructure management. • Teamwork: Work with talented engineers committed to solving problems that matter. Why Join ENVENTION? ENVENTION offers competitive benefits with a small company culture. We’re known for decades of experience delivering innovative technologies and software frameworks to customers within prominent DoD programs. One of our core values is “We do it right because we’re part of the fight” which is a testament to the mission-driven mindset behind everything we do. Founded in 2010 by two experienced software architects from the Patriot air defense system, ENVENTION has grown to offer services in systems engineering, interoperability, user experience, testing, cybersecurity, and FPGA hardware design.
