Job description

ENVENTION has an immediate need for several mid-level software engineers with strong Java and C2 algorithms experience to join our team supporting the air defense planning and execution capabilities of the cutting-edge Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS). This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a transformative air defense system that integrates advanced technologies to protect against modern threats. You’ll work on complex software challenges, collaborate across disciplines, and help develop solutions that shape the future of Army Air Defense. This position isn’t just about writing code; it’s about ensuring mission-critical Command and Control (C2) engagement planning and execution systems operate with speed, precision, and operational dominance. Your Role and Responsibilities: • Develop Core C2 Algorithms: Design, implement, and optimize complex Java-based algorithms supporting air defense engagement planning and execution functions. • Build for Tactical Linux: Write, test, and deploy high-reliability software within Linux enterprise and tactical environments. • Drive Agile & SAFe Delivery: Actively participate in Agile SCRUM and SAFe release trains, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and team retrospectives. • Integrate DevSecOps Practices: Incorporate continuous integration, automated testing, and security principles into the daily software development lifecycle. • Leverage Atlassian Tooling: Utilize tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket to maintain traceability, manage user stories, and collaborate across teams. • Support System Integration: Partner with software testers, systems engineers, and domain experts to integrate engagement planning modules into total system solutions. What You Bring: • Algorithmic Expertise: Strong foundation in data structures, mathematical modeling, and algorithm development in Java. • Command & Control Insight: Knowledge or strong interest in air defense C2 concepts, engagement logic, and mission planning workflows. • Linux Proficiency: Hands-on experience developing, debugging, and deploying software tools in Linux environments. • Agile Mindset: Comfort working within SAFe/SCRUM frameworks and delivering incremental value in iterative cycles. • DevSecOps & Tooling Awareness: Experience incorporating CI/CD and security automation into modern Atlassian-driven software workflows. Why This Role is Unique: • Impact: Contribute to a program redefining how the U.S. Army conducts integrated air and missile defense. • Challenge: Tackle complex C2 engagement algorithms that require innovative and practical solutions. • Growth: Expand your technical depth in military software architectures, automated threat evaluation, and engagement planning logic. • Teamwork: Work with talented engineers committed to solving problems that matter. Why Join ENVENTION? ENVENTION offers competitive benefits with a small company culture. We’re known for decades of experience delivering innovative technologies and software frameworks to customers within prominent DoD programs. One of our core values is “We do it right because we’re part of the fight” which is a testament to the mission-driven mindset behind everything we do. Founded in 2010 by two experienced software architects from the Patriot air defense system, ENVENTION has grown to offer services in systems engineering, interoperability, user experience, testing, cybersecurity, and FPGA hardware design.
