Software Engineer | Manhattan NYC - In office | Competitive base plus equity | Start ASAP
The company
A seed-stage fintech company is building the underlying financial infrastructure required for prediction markets to become a trusted institutional asset class.
Despite the rapid growth of event contracts, the market still lacks much of the reliable data, risk-management and operational infrastructure available across established financial markets. The company is developing APIs and systems that will allow institutions to interact with prediction markets through technology they can trust.
The business recently completed an oversubscribed seed round backed by multiple institutional investors. It has a lean, highly technical team based in Manhattan and is now looking for another engineer to help build the platform from an early stage.
The opportunity
The company has recently added significant senior engineering experience and is now looking for an exceptional earlier-career engineer who can grow alongside the business.
This is not a narrowly defined backend, infrastructure or financial-engineering role. You will work across the platform, taking ownership of technical problems spanning product development, cloud infrastructure, APIs, data and internal tooling.
The position would suit someone a few years into their career who has developed strong engineering foundations but now wants greater ownership, faster progression and direct exposure to the decisions involved in building a company.
You will work closely with the founders and senior engineers, contributing directly to the technical architecture and product while learning from people who have previously built institutional financial
systems from the ground up.
Responsibilities
• Design, build and deploy core parts of the platform
• Develop backend services and APIs supporting institutional financial workflows
• Build reliable and scalable systems within an AWS environment
• Work across product engineering, data infrastructure, cloud systems and internal tooling
• Own projects from initial design through deployment and production support
• Use Ai development tools to improve the speed and quality of engineering work
• Work with complex financial and market datasets
• Contribute to decisions around architecture, system design and engineering standards
• Identify problems proactively and build practical solutions without relying on fixed specifications
• Collaborate directly with the founders, customers and other engineers
• Help establish the company’s engineering culture and development practices
What they are looking for
• Approximately two to five years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong general software engineering and problem-solving ability
• Experience building and shipping production systems
• The ability to work across several technical areas rather than within one narrow specialism
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
• A scrappy and practical approach with a willingness to take ownership
• Confidence using Ai-assisted development tools as part of a serious engineering workflow
• Comfort working within a small, fast-moving and ambiguous environment
• An interest in building foundational technology for a developing financial market
• Willingness to work from the Manhattan office
The company is more interested in finding an outstanding engineer than matching an exact list of technologies. Candidates with experience in different languages or technical environments are encouraged to apply if they have strong fundamentals and can learn quickly.
Technology
The core environment includes:
• Python
• TypeScript
• AWS
• APIs and backend services
• Cloud-based and event-driven systems
• Financial and market-data infrastructure
AWS experience is particularly valuable, as the platform is built entirely within its cloud environment.
Ideal backgrounds
Strong candidates could come from:
• A leading technology company
• An Ai-native business or applied Ai start-up
• A high-quality early-stage software company
• Cloud infrastructure, developer tooling or distributed systems
• Fintech, exchanges, market data or institutional financial technology
• A quantitative trading firm or hedge fund
Previous financial-markets or prediction-markets experience is helpful but not required. The company is open to candidates from broader technology backgrounds who can demonstrate excellent engineering ability, ownership and genuine interest in the product.
What “Ai-native” means
The team is not simply looking for someone who occasionally uses an Ai coding assistant.
The right candidate will understand how to use modern Ai tools throughout the engineering process, including research, system design, code generation, testing, debugging and production investigation. They must also possess the technical judgement required to evaluate outputs, make architectural decisions and remain accountable for the systems they build.
What success looks like
Within the first 6–12 months, you should be:
• Owning meaningful parts of the production platform
• Shipping systems used by customers and internal stakeholders
• Contributing to architectural and product decisions
• Working independently across a broad range of technical problems
• Developing rapidly through close collaboration with the founders and senior engineers
• Helping establish the infrastructure for institutional participation in prediction markets
Why join
• Join shortly after an oversubscribed institutional seed round
• Receive meaningful equity ownership in an early-stage company
• Work directly with the founders and experienced financial-systems engineers
• Own important production systems from an early stage
• Build infrastructure for one of the fastest-developing areas of financial markets
• Gain broader responsibility and faster progression than a conventional Big Tech or financial-services role
• Help define both the product and engineering culture as the company grows
Interview process
The process will typically include four to five stages:
• Initial discussion covering experience, motivation and interest in the business
• Technical conversation focused on previous systems and engineering decisions
• Engineering design exercise, with the use of Ai permitted
• Potential live coding or problem-solving discussion
• Final in-person meeting with the team in Manhattan
The exact process may be adjusted depending on the candidate’s experience.
