Description
This organization is a global communications solutions provider offering a comprehensive suite of fully managed services focused on secure connectivity, networking, and mobility. It supports businesses and government agencies by simplifying communications and network operations. Clients include many Fortune 500 companies, and the organization is recognized as a leader in the industry. With a broad technology portfolio, integrated partnerships, and a private network, it delivers tailored solutions across design, deployment, and ongoing management — driving cost savings, efficiency, innovation, and enabling customers to focus on core objectives.
The team believes each member is essential to long‑term success. The work environment encourages professional growth, skill development, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a rewarding career experience.
The organization is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its Software Engineering Team in NYC.
The Senior Software Engineer will lead a major platform modernization effort — migrating complex legacy enterprise web applications to a modern, maintainable technology stack. You will work directly with AI‑powered engineering tools as a core part of your workflow, guiding them to generate and validate code while applying strong architectural judgment. The team works across the full stack — cloud infrastructure, APIs, databases, and frontend — and moves quickly. Engineers who take ownership, think deeply, and deliver are highly valued.
Role and Responsibilities
Migration Leadership:
Own the end‑to‑end rewrite of a production enterprise web application to a modern stack (NestJS, React/TypeScript, Temporal.io), executing module‑by‑module while maintaining compatibility with an existing MSSQL database.
AI‑Augmented Engineering:
Use AI‑assisted development tools to generate, refactor, and validate code, applying engineering judgment to review output and make architectural decisions.
Full‑Stack Development:
Build across backend (JavaScript, Python, NestJS/Node.js), frontend (React + TypeScript), and data layers (TypeORM + Microsoft SQL Server).
Workflow Engineering:
Migrate legacy process flows to Temporal.io, including long‑running workflows, human task queues, timers, and conditional logic.
API & Integration:
Design and maintain RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger documentation. Manage clean contracts between new and legacy modules during transition.
Cloud & DevOps:
Deploy and manage solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP. Implement CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code, and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).
Code Quality:
Establish engineering standards for the new codebase, conduct code reviews, and write well‑tested, maintainable code.
Mentorship:
Guide junior engineers and model effective, responsible use of AI‑assisted development tools.
Desired Qualifications
• Strong engineering fundamentals and the judgment to work effectively with AI‑assisted tooling
• 5+ years of professional software engineering with a track record of delivering production systems
• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js experience; NestJS or similar backend framework
• Solid React experience building complex, data‑driven web applications
• Relational database experience and proficiency with ORM frameworks; MSSQL is a strong plus
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hands‑on DevOps (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes)
• Ability to read and reason about systems you didn’t build — legacy code analysis is central to this role
• Openness to AI‑assisted development tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, etc.)
• Strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical audiences
Nice to Have
• Experience with C# or other strongly typed backend languages
• Data pipeline experience (Apache Airflow, Apache Flink, Kafka, etc.)
• Workflow/orchestration engine experience (Temporal.io, Conductor, etc.)
• Figma familiarity — able to work directly from design files
• Experience migrating from low‑code or legacy enterprise platforms
• Certifications in AWS, Azure, GCP, or Kubernetes
