Job description

OUR MISSION We exist to create a more connected, compassionate, and confident experience for people with cancer and those who care for them. We make it easier to get answers, access high-quality care quickly, and feel supported throughout treatment and beyond. Today, Thyme Care is a market-leading value-based oncology care enabler, partnering with national and regional health plans, providers, and employers to deliver better outcomes and lower costs for thousands of people across the country. Our model combines high-touch human support with powerful technology and AI to bring together everyone involved in a person’s cancer journey: caregivers, oncologists, health plans, and employers. As a tech-native organization, we believe technology should strengthen the human connection at the center of care. Through data science, automation, and AI, we simplify complexity, improve collaboration, and help care teams focus on what matters most: supporting people through cancer. Looking ahead, our vision is bold: to become a household name in cancer care, where every person diagnosed asks for Thyme Care by name. If you’re inspired to make cancer care more human and to help reimagine what’s possible, we’d love to meet you. Together, we can build a future where every person with cancer feels truly cared for, in every moment that matters. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Lead a team of research scientists to measure Thyme Care’s impact on clinical outcomes for patients with cancer, and develop narratives to communicate Thyme Care’s value to customers. - Plan and conduct internal program evaluations, providing care teams with actionable insights to improve performance against operational targets. - Set the strategy for predictive analytics and risk adjustment at Thyme Care, and guide the team in developing and applying those models. - Oversee analyses that estimate potential savings from provider partnerships and new clinical interventions. - Support the development and maintenance of models that connect operational activities to claims-based outcomes and Thyme Care’s financial performance. - Support claims data quality checks, investigate anomalies to identify their root causes, and work with data science teams to resolve issues. - Establish consistent measurement definitions across the organization and promote best practices in analytic reporting. WHAT YOU’VE DONE - Have 10 or more years of experience conducting health outcomes evaluations at a payer, integrated health system, managed care organization, or value-based care organization. - Have 3-5 year of experience managing a small team of individual contributor research scientists or similar role. - Have deep knowledge of clinical outcome measures and causal inference methods. - Have expertise in predictive analytics and risk adjustment methods used to evaluate care quality. - Have developed Excel-based financial models or forecasts that estimate the cost-of-care impact of clinical interventions. - Are highly proficient in SQL, with experience extracting and transforming data from large health care claims databases. Experience with Python or another programming language is a plus. - Are familiar with business intelligence tools such as Looker, Metabase, Tableau, or Qlik Sense. - Have worked effectively across functions and built strong relationships with data and clinical teams. - Can explain findings, their implications, and recommended actions to executives and external audiences. - Hold a bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, actuarial science, or another quantitative field. An advanced degree is a plus. WHAT LEADS TO SUCCESS Act with our members in mind: Thyme Care’s mission, and particularly our member experience, matters deeply to you. Critical eye for detail: Not only do you maintain high standards for data accuracy, presentation and documentation, you have a natural ability to detect data anomalies and identify when outputs look suspicious and warrant further investigation. Move with purpose: You’re biased to action. You know how to identify and prioritize your initiative’s needs; and you do what it takes to ensure that urgent and important needs are acted on immediately. Comfort with ambiguity: You have a proven track record of success within scaling businesses, fast-paced environments, and startups. You understand that rapid changes to the business, strategy, organization, and priorities are par for the course. Expertise: You have a solid understanding of healthcare data and financial concepts; and you can use analytic methods to drive tactical decisions and strategic plans. You’re an expert in right sizing solutions and tailoring your communication to your audience. OUR VALUES At Thyme Care, our core values guide us in everything we do: Act with our members in mind, Move with purpose, and Seek diverse perspectives. They anchor our business decisions, including how we grow, the products we make, and the paths we choose—or don’t choose. Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes equity, benefits, and other opportunities at Thyme Care. Individual pay decisions are based on several factors, including qualifications, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Thyme Care employees. The base salary for this role is $191,250-$225,000. The salary range could be lower or higher than this if the role is hired at another level. This position is also bonus-eligible. We recognize a history of inequality in healthcare. We’re here to challenge the status quo and create a culture of inclusion through the care we give and the company we build. We embrace and celebrate a diversity of perspectives in reflection of our members and the members we serve. We are an equal-opportunity employer. Be cautious of recruitment fraud thymecare.com, and always confirm that communications are coming from an official Thyme Care email.
