We are seeking a Data Quality Business Analyst to serve as the bridge between our business stakeholders and our data quality engineering team. This role works with business areas across the company, such as underwriting, billing, claims, and finance, to understand what "quality" means for their data, translates those expectations into clear, prioritized data quality rule requirements, and manages the backlog of rules for the Data Quality Engineer to build in DQLabs. Our program organizes data quality around business functions and subject areas (e.g., submission, quote, policy, exposure data) rather than isolated field-level critical data elements. Quality is framed in terms of what it enables the business to do (i.e. price and launch new products, quote with confidence, report reliably) and includes the correlations between entities (e.g., submission to quote, quote to policy, one submission producing multiple policies), not just the accuracy of individual fields. This Business Analyst is responsible for defining requirements, priorities, and reporting in those business-function terms. Our data quality program operates on a decentralized model: alerts route directly to Business Data Stewards and data owners, who monitor and triage issues within their domains. This role owns the health of that model. Beyond gathering requirements, the Business Analyst enables and supports the steward network, onboarding new stewards, training them on triage workflows, tracking whether alerts are being worked, escalating issues that go unclaimed, and reporting on program effectiveness to leadership.
Requirements & Rule Backlog
• Partner with business stakeholders to define data quality requirements organized by business function and subject area, framing quality in terms of the business capabilities it enables.
• Within each subject area, identify and document the critical data elements, quality expectations, thresholds, severity, and the steward/owner responsible for triage.
• Define cross-entity correlation requirements as first-class quality rules alongside field-level checks.
• Work with stakeholders to define derived, subject-area-level quality scores tied to business readiness (e.g., readiness of quote and exposure data to support new product development or provisional quoting), so quality is measured against outcomes.
• Own and prioritize the data quality rule backlog by subject area, balancing business impact, regulatory importance, and engineering effort in partnership with the Data Quality Engineer.
• Validate implemented rules with business stakeholders before deployment, confirming the rule measures what the business intended.
• Maintain traceability between business requirements, implemented rules, and the subject areas and systems they cover
