Job description

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE Full-Time | Tempe, AZ ABOUT BASATA At Basata, we're rethinking the way healthcare practices get work done. Our AI-powered tools help automate the repetitive, time-consuming tasks that bog teams down, so staff can spend less time on admin and more time with patients. We're a small, fast-moving team that loves building smart systems and simple, intuitive experiences. If you're someone who gets excited about early-stage energy, designing better ways to work, and fixing what's broken in healthcare, we'd love to connect. ABOUT THE ROLE Basata is bringing on a Head of Finance to be the company's most senior strategic finance voice, reporting directly to the CEO. As we scale, the forward-looking work — the financial model, the board narrative, the case for what we invest in next — needs a full-time owner driving it end to end. This role is that seat. You'll own the FP&A model, budget, and scenario planning, build the KPI framework that guides how we allocate capital, and be a key voice in which bets we take to hit our financial goals. You'll also lead board reporting and investor relations, and get us investor-ready well before future funding rounds, by building the data room and diligence materials proactively. We're looking for someone who is strategic by default but just as comfortable getting into the weeds, who can lead up to the CEO and board as naturally as they lead across the teams whose work feeds their models, and who wants to build the finance function they lead rather than inherit one already built. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own the company's financial function - Build the financial model end to end — budget, multi-year forecast, and scenario planning — and keep it current enough to answer any "what if" the CEO or board asks - Manage the company’s accounting and make sure it is GAAP compliant, especially understanding the complexity of revenue recognition and ASC606. - Implement usage based billing system and understand the complexity of revenue recognition. - Manage the tax filings for the company - Develop a sales comp plan - Build and maintain the KPI framework that tracks how the business is actually performing, and use it to inform capital allocation decisions in real time - Bring proactive, data-backed recommendations on pricing, unit economics, and growth bets - Serve as a key voice in which bets the business takes to hit its financial goals, partnering closely with the CEO and leadership team on strategic tradeoffs - Own board reporting and investor relations: prepare and present the monthly/quarterly financial package and manage ongoing investor communication - Build and manage the data room, diligence prep, and be the primary point of contact for investor and legal questions as we raise future funding - Get hands-on when it matters — build the model yourself, dig into the SaaS metrics, and partner across the org so the numbers reflect what's actually happening in the business WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 7–10 years of finance experience, with a track record of taking on increasing ownership of FP&A or strategic finance at a venture-backed startup - SaaS experience required; healthcare tech a plus - Has personally run — not just supported — a raise and/or an audit before; understands what investor-grade diligence actually requires - Lead a first time audit for a company - Experience working at a Big 4 or having done an audit in a similar setting - Track record owning board and investor reporting independently, not just assembling it for someone else to present - Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; CPA or MBA a plus, not required WHO YOU ARE - Curious and analytical — you find the story in the numbers before anyone asks you to - Strategic by default, but just as comfortable getting into the weeds and building the model yourself when the moment calls for it - A generalist by instinct — not looking to stay narrowly in one lane of finance - Resourceful and self-directed; you build the process you need rather than waiting for one to exist - Comfortable leading up and across the organization — as credible with the CEO and board as you are with the teams whose work feeds your models - A clear, confident communicator who can carry a room with the board or the CEO WHY JOIN BASATA? - Drive real impact. Your work helps clinics run more smoothly and gets patients care faster, with fewer headaches. - Shape something meaningful. You'll play a real role in both the systems and the experience, not just execute someone else's design. - High ownership. We trust you to lead, build, and bring ideas to life. - Work with purpose. We're solving real problems in healthcare with tools people rely on every day. OUR CORE VALUES - We earn trust every day We build trust through honesty, consistency, and respect in every interaction. We do what we say we will do and act with integrity toward our team, customers, and patients. - We find a way We stay curious, resourceful, and persistent when the path forward is not obvious. We look beyond the first answer and keep working until we find a solution that serves the mission. - We take action today We recognize that our mission requires us to act now, not wait for perfect conditions. We move quickly with clear purpose, focusing our energy on the actions that create meaningful progress. - We own the finish line We take responsibility for outcomes, not only our individual tasks. We communicate openly, follow through on commitments, and stay engaged until work is truly complete. - We do bold things We are willing to question assumptions, take thoughtful risks, and pursue bold ideas that have meaningful impact. We bring courage and conviction to the work while remaining open to learning.
