Job description

[app.ashbyhq.com] ABOUT BASIS Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy. Our agents operate for hours at a time, performing end-to-end work for some of the largest accounting firms in the world. We recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation and are racing to deploy the most advanced applied ML at production scale. Our investors include: Khosla Ventures (Keith Rabois & Vinod Khosla), Accel (Miles Clements), Google Ventures, Nat Friedman & Daniel Gross, Adam D'Angelo, Jeff Dean, Jack Altman, Noam Brown, Kyle Vogt, Amjad Masad, Clem Delangue and many other operators/technical leaders. "Basis is on the frontier of building production-grade, long-horizon agents. They've pushed the limits of what we thought our models could do on real-world, economically valuable, complex accounting tasks. They've been a great collaborator in helping us shape what the future of agents looks like." — Prashant Mital, Applied AI Lead, OpenAI ABOUT THE ROLE Basis is looking for a founding brand designer to own how our brand shows up in the world. You'll turn an ambitious company and category narrative into a visual identity that people recognize, trust, and remember. Basis is positioned to become one of the leading agent labs, so the brand carries two loads: a customer brand and a technical brand. Both have a good baseline. Neither has been pushed as far as it should go. The customer brand also has to carry multiple go-to-market motions, each with a different buyer and different needs, so range matters as much as consistency. This is a wide open brief. We're building agents that change how accounting work gets done. The brand needs to make that future feel clear, credible, and worth joining. You'll define the visual language that helps Basis stand apart from a crowded AI market without falling back on familiar AI tropes. You'll shape the brand across our website, launches, campaigns, customer stories, visual assets, and recruiting. You'll move from concept to final file and make every touchpoint feel like one brand. This is not a production-only role. You'll set the creative direction, challenge weak ideas, and bring a point of view on what modern B2B design should become. You'll also stay close to the work: design the page, build the system, ship the campaign. You'll build the operating system for design at Basis: a flexible brand system, clear standards, reusable templates, and AI-enabled workflows that raise creative output without lowering the bar. You'll know where consistency creates leverage and where the work should break the pattern. You'll partner closely with the Head of Marketing, PMM, Content, Demand Generation, Customer Marketing, Product, Sales, and Recruiting. As the company grows, you'll guide agencies, freelancers, and future designers, and protect the quality and coherence of the brand. This is a high-ownership role for a designer who wants to build a consequential brand from the ground up. You'll need exceptional taste, strong business judgment, and the ability to turn ambiguity into a clear creative direction. 📍 Location: NYC, Flatiron office. In-person team, 5 days a week. 🎨 To apply: send a portfolio link along with your resume WHAT YOU'LL BRING - 5-8 years in brand design, visual design, or creative direction, ideally at a high-growth software, AI, fintech, or technical product company - A portfolio of complete brand systems, not a collection of individual assets, that turned complex products and abstract ideas into distinctive creative concepts - Exceptional taste in typography, composition, color, hierarchy, image direction, and visual storytelling - Strong digital design skills and experience shipping responsive web experiences in close partnership with developers - Experience building design systems, templates, standards, and workflows that flex across different buyers and motions without fragmenting into separate brands - Strong creative judgment and the confidence to explain the idea, defend the decision, take feedback, and improve the work - Technical curiosity and the ability to learn a complex product, buyer, and market quickly WHAT WE'D LOVE TO SEE - Category-Defining Brand Work: A visual identity that helped a company claim a distinct place in the market, not just look more polished - Website Depth: Experience shaping a B2B website from narrative and information hierarchy through interaction and final visual design - Campaign Concepts: Integrated ideas that traveled across digital, editorial, social, events, and sales surfaces without losing their force - Editorial Taste: Reports, customer stories, and thought leadership that made complex material feel clear, useful, and worth reading - System That Compounds: Every component, template, and workflow you ship makes the next project faster and stronger - AI-Native Creative Practice: A thoughtful approach to using AI for exploration, production, and iteration without making the work feel generic WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE - Distinctive Brand: Buyers recognize Basis quickly and can tell what makes the company different before they read every word - Clear Visual System: The website, campaigns, customer stories, events, sales materials, and recruiting work all feel like Basis, and the customer brand and technical brand read as one company - Category Credibility: The brand makes a new kind of technology feel concrete, trustworthy, and ready for high-stakes work - Launch Leverage: Major launches have strong creative concepts that travel across every channel and give Marketing and Sales more impact - Creative Velocity: Reusable systems and clear workflows help the company ship faster without lowering the quality bar - Quality Bar: Teams know what excellent looks like, agencies and freelancers receive clear direction, and weak work does not reach the market - Cross-Functional Leverage: Marketing, Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Recruiting have the design partnership and tools they need to do stronger work - Brand That Compounds: Each launch, campaign, and asset strengthens the system instead of creating another one-off BENEFITS AT BASIS We offer a competitive and thoughtful benefits package designed to support your physical, mental, and financial well-being: - Health & Wellness: Premium Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage; Life Insurance; and 6 coaching & 6 therapy sessions through Spring Health. - Basis will cover 100% of your Wellhub Gold wellhub.com membership. - Wellhub gives you access to gyms like Lifetime, SoulCycle, NYSC and so many more - as well as access to wellness apps like Strava & Headspace! - Time off: Unlimited PTO + 12 paid company holidays. - In-Office Perks: Daily meal stipends, a fully stocked kitchen, and $300 toward your custom desk setup. - Financial Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits and 401(k) retirement plan - Team Culture: Monthly office activities and frequent optional team happy hours. - Parental Support: Access to Carrot Fertility and paid parental leave.
