Job description

MariaDB is making a big impact on the world. Whether you’re checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan or ordering takeout – MariaDB is the backbone of applications used every day. Companies small and large, including 75% of the Fortune 500, run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development. The Opportunity MariaDB Cloud is a fully managed database platform running on Kubernetes across AWS and Google Cloud. We are expanding into U.S. government cloud regions, and we're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer in the United States to help us build, deploy, and operate this new environment. You won't be starting from a blank page. Our global platform engineering team designs, builds, and validates infrastructure and automation in fully representative staging environments. Your role is to bring that work into our U.S. government cloud environments, own its production reliability, and be the engineering voice on the ground, feeding operational reality back into the platform's design. Responsibilities Deploy and operate Kubernetes-based infrastructure in AWS GovCloud (US) and Google Cloud, using Terraform/Terragrunt and GitOps pipelines developed jointly with our global SRE team. Own production reliability for the U.S. government cloud environment: monitoring, alerting, capacity, incident response, and post-incident improvement. Run and maintain the platform's supporting services - observability (Prometheus, Grafana), logging, secrets management, messaging, and CI/CD tooling — on top of Kubernetes. Participate in the implementation of security hardening and compliance requirements for federal environments (e.g., FedRAMP), working alongside our security and compliance teams. Improve automation relentlessly: if a task needs to be done twice, you'll turn it into code. Take part in an on-call rotation for the environments you operate. Qualifications 10+ years of SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering experience, including operating production Kubernetes. Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills (Terraform; Terragrunt a plus) and experience with GitOps-driven deployment workflows. Solid Linux, networking, and TLS fundamentals. Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar) and log pipelines. Scripting or programming proficiency (Go, Python, or Bash). Clear written communication - runbooks, incident reports, and change documentation matter in this environment. Eligibility: This position requires U.S. citizenship and residency in the United States due to federal government cloud access requirements (AWS GovCloud). Bonus Experience and Skills You'll be the founding U.S. engineer for a new environment — high ownership and visibility, with the backing of an experienced global team rather than a solo burden. Everything is built as code and validated before it reaches you; your job is production excellence, not firefighting someone's snowflake infrastructure. Direct influence on how a managed database platform meets federal requirements — a skill set in growing demand. Location US Remote - Prefer Salt Lake City, Utah - Hybrid Role What’s in it for you? Impact the world of technology by pushing the boundaries of technology and business models, working at MariaDB. Be part of a game-changing organization that encourages outside-the-box thinking, values empowerment, and is truly shaping the future of the software industry. This is a permanent salaried full-time employee role (Not a contract or freelance position). You’ll be collaborating with high-caliber colleagues around the world, offering unparalleled learning and growth opportunities. Compensation The annual anticipated U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is USD $150,000.00 -$205,000.00. Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies. In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than the job description as posted. Salary is one component of MariaDB’s total rewards package, additional benefits include health insurance, life, and disability insurance, funds toward professional development resources, Flexible Paid Time Off (FPTO), 401(k), paid holidays, and parental leave, just to name a few! Salaries for candidates outside the U.S. will vary based on local compensation structures. How to Apply If you are interested in this position, please submit your application along with your CV/Resume through our ATS Greenhouse on our MariaDB Careers site. At MariaDB we celebrate the diverse experiences and perspectives of our employees because this drives innovation and success. MariaDB is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace for everyone. MariaDB does not sponsor work visas or relocation. To request an accommodation due to a disability, please inform your recruiter. MariaDB will not accept agency resumes without a prior contractual agreement with HR.
