Job description

About Aegis Ventures Aegis Ventures is a next-generation startup studio that partners with entrepreneurs and industry leaders to originate, launch, and scale transformative companies, with a focus on artificial intelligence. The Aegis platform brings together market-shaping ideas, permanent growth capital, and ambitious individuals who are driven to solve major societal problems. Our companies use technology to transform healthcare by dramatically improving quality, access, and cost. Aegis creates new companies with substantial input from our Digital Consortium of a dozen leading health systems and other ecosystem partners. We have launched 6 innovative companies to date and are just getting started. About the Company Avandra Imaging 's mission is to unlock clinical data to overcome previously impossible medical challenges, bringing hope and medical breakthroughs that transform patient lives. Avandra is poised to revolutionize healthcare research and innovation by creating the largest indexed data cloud of medical imaging. This platform will unlock unprecedented access to real-world imaging data, essential for biopharma research, medical device innovation, AI model training, and improved patient care. Leveraging its strategic acquisitions, Avandra aims to aggregate and de-identify vast amounts of imaging data, providing frictionless access to this invaluable resource. With a national footprint of over 5,000 customer integrations and a market share of approximately 70%, this robust infrastructure supports their core business, ensuring continued growth and cash flow to fuel their innovative data cloud platform. About the Job As a Principal Software Engineer at Avandra Imaging, you’ll serve as a hands-on technical leader, collaborating across Engineering, Product, and other areas of the business to shape and deliver systems that are secure, scalable, and high-impact. You’ll be trusted to drive architectural direction, mentor other engineers, and set quality standards across the stack. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in complex technical domains, influences through expertise rather than authority, and elevates the work of others through mentorship, collaboration, and a commitment to engineering excellence. This role goes beyond individual contributions — you’ll model engineering excellence, influence technical strategy, and help foster a team culture built on curiosity, craftsmanship, and care. You’ll often lead without authority, earning influence through deep technical insight, sound judgment, and a reputation for raising the bar. What You’ll Do Architect and lead the development of critical systems, services, and infrastructure — with a focus on reliability, security, performance, and maintainability. Partner with product and program leaders to ensure engineering solutions align with user needs, regulatory requirements, and business outcomes. Set and evolve technical standards across the organization. Proactively address tech debt, guide code review quality, and drive initiatives that improve team velocity and code quality. Coach and mentor engineers across teams — helping them grow their craft, navigate ambiguity, and develop in their careers. Investigate and evaluate new technologies to drive innovation, simplify complexity, and support scale. Contribute directly to codebases , especially for architectural foundations, prototypes, and complex or high-risk areas. Serve as a multiplier , identifying gaps, facilitating collaboration, and unblocking teams without taking over. Uphold and strengthen our engineering culture , with a commitment to curiosity, learning, integrity, and positive team dynamics. Help recruit and onboard exceptional talent , contributing to a team that reflects our values and mission. What You’ll Need 12+ years of experience as an engineer across multiple tech stacks, with deep experience building and scaling distributed systems. Proven ability to operate as a technical leader — setting direction, influencing others, and delivering results without formal authority. Strong foundation in software engineering best practices , including CI/CD, observability, automated testing, and infrastructure as code. Experience with cloud-native systems (preferably AWS), including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) Solid knowledge of relational and non-relational databases , Demonstrated success in a highly regulated environment , preferably healthcare, with an understanding of compliance and data protection (e.g., HIPAA). Effective communicator and cross-functional collaborator, comfortable representing engineering in executive conversations and product strategy. Passion for teaching, mentoring, and cultivating a high-trust, high-autonomy team environment. What We Offer Meaningful Impact: The work we do directly enables medical breakthroughs — such as earlier cancer detection, better Alzheimer's treatments, AI diagnostics that save lives. This isn't abstract; it's the reason our health system partners invest in us. Career-Defining Opportunity: You'll have a front-row seat to every aspect of building a category-defining company—strategy, operations, fundraising, M&A, scaling. Exceptional Team: Work alongside a founder with a track record of building and exiting healthcare technology companies, backed by investors who are true partners. Competitive Package: Competitive salary, equity, comprehensive benefits, and hybrid work flexibility. Values-Driven Culture: We’re building a team grounded in Avandra’s 5 Core Values that guide how we show up every day: WIN with Integrity Radical Accountability Engage with Empathy Innovation Through Playful Curiosity Patients First Salary Range $180,000 - $200,000 base salary, depending on experience and alignment with role expectations.
