Job description

About Us: webAI is pioneering the future of artificial intelligence by establishing the first distributed AI infrastructure dedicated to personalized AI. We recognize the evolving demands of a data-driven society for scalability and flexibility, and we firmly believe that the future of AI lies in distributed processing at the edge, bringing computation closer to the source of data generation. Our mission is to build a future where a company's valuable data and intellectual property remain entirely private, enabling the deployment of large-scale AI models directly on standard consumer hardware without compromising the information embedded within those models. We are developing an end-to-end platform that is secure, scalable, and fully under the control of our users, empowering enterprises with AI that understands their unique business. We are a team driven by truth, ownership, tenacity, and humility, and we seek individuals who resonate with these core values and are passionate about shaping the next generation of AI. ABOUT THE ROLE: webAI is seeking a Senior Platform Rust Engineer to build the core software platform that supports our enterprise and consumer products. You will design and implement reusable platform capabilities and expose them through stable APIs and SDKs. Your work will span systems architecture, backend development, automated delivery, documentation, and developer experience. This role is suited to an engineer who can move between low-level technical concerns and clear, practical interfaces for other developers. You will own complex work from design through release while helping shape the boundaries and evolution of the webAI platform. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Design and build reliable platform capabilities shared across webAI products. - Develop backend and systems software with a focus on performance, security, maintainability, and operational reliability. - Create clear, stable APIs and SDKs for internal and external developers. - Own features from architecture and implementation through testing, packaging, release, and production support. - Build and improve CI/CD pipelines for multi-platform builds, automated testing, artifact publishing, and releases. - Establish sound practices for API evolution, versioning, compatibility, and migration. - Write documentation, examples, and reference implementations alongside the APIs they explain. - Diagnose performance, concurrency, reliability, and integration problems across complex systems. - Collaborate with product and engineering teams to turn product needs into reusable platform capabilities. - Improve developer tooling and workflows as the platform and SDK ecosystem grow. REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: - 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience. - Strong experience designing and maintaining APIs, SDKs, client libraries, or developer-facing platform interfaces. - Strong systems-engineering skills, including experience with concurrency, process boundaries, resource management, failure modes, and performance. - Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and release automation. - Experience packaging, versioning, and distributing production software. - Ability to write maintainable code, effective tests, clear technical documentation, and useful examples. - Experience diagnosing complex integration, reliability, and performance problems. - Proven ability to take complex or ambiguous requirements through design, implementation, and release. - Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field. PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS - Professional experience with Rust. - Experience building distributed, peer-to-peer, offline-capable, or edge systems. - Experience designing or integrating foreign function interfaces (FFI) and language bindings. - Experience working across programming-language and process boundaries. - Familiarity with semantic versioning, compatibility policies, and API migration strategies. - Experience building cross-platform software for desktop, mobile, server, or embedded environments. - Experience creating developer tools, code generators, build tooling, or release infrastructure. - Experience with security-sensitive or privacy-preserving systems.
