Job Title: Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer – Epic Location: Raleigh, Durham, NC Duration: 12 months with Possible Extension Work Mode: Hybrid Job Description We are seeking an experienced Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer to develop and deliver Epic EHR training for healthcare providers and clinical staff. The candidate will support clinical documentation workflows, improve provider efficiency, and ensure effective use of Epic documentation tools. The ideal candidate must have an Epic Certified Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer certification and experience in training development, workflow optimization, and EHR implementation support. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain training curricula, user guides, quick reference materials, and eLearning content. • Deliver instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training to healthcare providers and clinical staff. • Train users on clinical documentation workflows, Epic templates, and SmartTools. • Support Epic implementation, go-live readiness, and post-implementation activities. • Collaborate with Clinical Informatics, IT, and application analyst teams to improve documentation workflows. • Translate Epic system updates and technical configurations into practical training materials. • Identify training gaps, evaluate user competency, and provide additional coaching. • Recommend workflow improvements to enhance documentation accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. • Participate in clinical documentation standardization and governance initiatives. Required Skills and Qualifications • Experience developing and delivering EHR training for healthcare providers and clinical staff. • Strong knowledge of clinical documentation workflows and provider-facing EHR functionality. • Experience creating training materials, curricula, user manuals, and quick reference guides. • Proficiency in instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training delivery. • Knowledge of Epic documentation tools, templates, and SmartTools. • Experience supporting EHR implementations, go-lives, and post-implementation support. • Strong communication, presentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder collaboration skills. • Ability to assess training effectiveness and recommend workflow improvements. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Epic EHR optimization and clinical documentation standardization. • Experience working with Clinical Informatics and healthcare IT teams. • Familiarity with clinical documentation compliance and regulatory requirements. • Experience supporting enterprise-wide EHR training and change management initiatives. • Experience participating in clinical documentation governance committees or workgroups . Education • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Informatics, Health Information Management, Nursing, Education, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. • Equivalent relevant healthcare IT and EHR training experience may be considered, depending on organizational requirements. Certification • Mandatory: Epic Certified Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer certification. • Candidates must hold the required Epic certification to be considered unless the hiring organization explicitly approves an equivalent credential.
