Job description

VP OF PRODUCT ABOUT BEDROCK TALENT At Bedrock Talent, we’re intentional about the companies we represent. We partner with founders and teams solving meaningful problems and building businesses we genuinely believe have the potential to make a lasting impact. This is one of those companies. ABOUT THE COMPANY Our client is an early-stage healthcare technology company building the execution layer for healthcare operations. Its platform helps accountable care organizations, health networks, and risk-bearing provider groups turn fragmented claims and clinical data into actionable daily workflows—from identifying which practices require attention and which patients need outreach to addressing care gaps and measuring the impact of those interventions. The company’s connected workflow products support several areas of value-based care operations, with each product’s output informing the next. Both the internal engineering team and customers use AI agents to explore, analyze, and validate healthcare data. The company is venture-backed, has secured a seven-figure enterprise contract, and has already demonstrated measurable improvements in preventive care delivery, risk capture, and financial performance across a customer network. THE OPPORTUNITY The company has grown through the CEO’s strong product instincts and direct involvement in translating customer needs into product decisions. Customers frequently bring highly specific requests, but many of those requests point to capabilities that could ultimately serve a much broader market. The challenge is not simply building what one customer asks for. It is identifying the underlying problem and designing a flexible product that can serve the next several customers as well. The company is hiring its first VP of Product to lead that work. PARTNER CLOSELY WITH THE CEO The CEO is a hands-on builder who remains close to the product architecture and data model. You will take significant product ownership off the CEO’s plate and bring well-developed recommendations and decisions forward. You should be comfortable making a strong case when you disagree, while also knowing when to disagree and commit. BEGIN WITH FOCUSED OWNERSHIP Although the role will ultimately cover the full product organization, you will initially take complete ownership of one or two product areas selected to align with your background. You will expand your scope as those areas begin operating independently of the CEO. WORK IN SHORT, ITERATIVE CYCLES This team does not operate around a rigid annual roadmap. Product development happens in focused one- to two-week cycles, and many ideas can be prototyped within several days. The difficult question is not whether something can be built—it is whether it is worth building and whether it can solve a meaningful problem for more than one customer. LEAD PRODUCT—NOT PROCESS You will maintain a clear and accurate backlog, but this is not a sprint-management or ticket-administration position. The company needs a product leader who can drive discovery, make decisions, shape scalable solutions, and ensure those solutions are adopted. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Own discovery, scoping, prioritization, acceptance, launch, and adoption for the product areas you lead. - Run recurring working sessions with customer teams across coding, quality, care management, analytics, and practice performance. - Identify what customers are truly trying to accomplish—not simply what they initially request. - Determine whether a customer need can be addressed through an existing configurable capability, requires refinement, or warrants a new product build. - Ensure new capabilities are designed to serve multiple customers rather than becoming one-off custom solutions. - Translate every customer commitment into a clearly scoped ticket with an owner and current status. - Return to customers for additional context when requirements are unclear so engineers receive work that is ready to build. - Establish engineering priorities for your product areas in close consultation with the CEO. - Use AI tools to prototype ideas and test them with customers before committing significant engineering resources. - Track product usage and adoption, then improve or retire features that are not delivering value. - Support the sales process by scoping solutions, leading product demonstrations, and incorporating prospective customer feedback into the product strategy. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE AFTER SIX MONTHS - The CEO is no longer the default product manager for the areas you own. - Every customer commitment within your product areas maps to a clearly scoped ticket with an owner and current status. - Most customer requests are translated into capabilities that can serve more than one organization. - Engineers receive clear, prioritized, and thoroughly scoped work. - Product decisions are informed by customer discovery, usage data, and measurable adoption. WHO YOU ARE - You have approximately 8–10 years of product experience, including ownership of an enterprise product area from strategy through launch and adoption. - You have taken at least one meaningful product from concept to market. - You have experience with government-sponsored healthcare programs such as Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, MSSP, ACO REACH, Stars, or risk adjustment from the payer or provider side. - You do not need to have spent your entire career in value-based care, but you understand the stakeholders, incentives, and operational complexity involved. - You have successfully translated numerous customer-specific requests into a scalable product that serves a broader market. - You can lead working sessions with operators, analysts, clinicians, and executives. - You can redirect a customer toward a stronger solution—even when it differs from what they initially requested—without damaging the relationship. - You can engage deeply with engineers on data models, technical tradeoffs, and product architecture, although you do not need to have been an engineer. - You already use AI tools for prototyping, analysis, and writing. - You can read SQL and work directly with data. - You have experience in an early-stage or high-growth startup, ideally between the seed and Series B stages. - You are comfortable partnering closely with a highly involved, product-oriented founder. THIS PROBABLY ISN’T THE RIGHT ROLE IF - Your best work depends on a fixed annual roadmap and traditional quarterly planning cycles. - Your primary product responsibility has been managing sprint ceremonies or maintaining a ticket board. - You want to define the product vision independently of a hands-on founder. - Your experience is primarily in value-based care operations and you have not yet owned a software product. - You prefer established structures over fast iteration, ambiguity, and hands-on problem-solving. WHY JOIN - Become the company’s first dedicated product leader, reporting directly to the CEO. - Build toward ownership of the full product organization and the opportunity to grow a team. - Join an experienced healthcare leadership team with deep knowledge of value-based care and early-stage company building. - Work within an AI-first environment where new ideas can be prototyped and tested in days. - Help transform complex healthcare data into products that meaningfully improve how care organizations operate. - Shape a platform that has already demonstrated meaningful customer and patient impact. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS - Base salary of $200,000–$225,000 - Meaningful early-employee equity with a four-year vesting schedule and one-year cliff - Medical, dental, and vision coverage - 401(k) - Additional benefits and paid time off Bedrock Talent and its client are committed to building an inclusive team. Qualified candidates will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
