Job description

Building the financial operating system for healthcare, and bringing the joy back to healthcare by fixing the financial chaos behind it. The healthcare payment system is a complex and inefficient maze - healthcare practices leave $125 billion in revenue uncollected each year, lost in the chaos of fragmented financial data, manual workflows, and opaque payer systems. This financial uncertainty leaves practices struggling to stay afloat, while valuable revenue slips through the cracks. Joyful Health is building the AI-powered financial operating system for healthcare practices. Our mission is to bring the joy back to running a private practice by simplifying financial operations so providers can focus on patient care. We spent 10 months working as fractional CFOs for a dozen practices, doing this work side by side with providers as we developed our product. We just announced our $22M Series A led by CRV and world-class investors including the founders of MongoDB & KAYAK. 🚀 We have an enormous opportunity in front of us. The broken healthcare payment ecosystem impacts practices of all sizes, and the opportunity to make a real difference is massive. This role is full-time. We’re looking for someone NYC-based who is open to coming into the office 3 days a week. The base pay range for this role is $150,000–$275,000 per year. ROLE DESCRIPTION We're looking for a talented and ambitious fullstack engineer with 3+ years of experience who's excited to build beautiful, intuitive user experiences that solve one of the toughest challenges in healthcare—helping providers understand and manage their financial operations. You'll play a key role in shipping features that delight users and make complex financial data accessible and actionable. Healthcare providers are drowning in financial chaos, struggling to navigate opaque systems and fragmented data. We're building the operating system that brings clarity to this complexity. The interfaces and experiences you create will be the primary way practices interact with their financial data, make critical business decisions, and reclaim millions in lost revenue. As a product engineer, you'll have an outsized impact on the company's trajectory, working directly on the features that define our product and drive customer delight. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to own features end-to-end and make a huge difference. You should be comfortable (and excited!) about working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment where you'll be able to wear many hats and take on new challenges as they arise. This role is full-time. We're looking for candidates based in NYC. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Design and build intuitive, responsive user interfaces using React and TypeScript that make complex financial workflows simple and delightful - Own features end-to-end from concept to deployment, working across the full stack (React frontend, FastAPI backend) to ship quickly and iteratively - Collaborate closely with designers, product, and customers to deeply understand user needs and translate them into elegant, functional experiences - Build and refine core product features including dashboards, analytics visualizations, workflow tools, and AI-powered copilot interfaces - Drive improvements to our design system, component library, and frontend architecture to enable the team to move faster - Work with backend engineers to design clean APIs and data models that support great user experiences - Actively contribute to building the team's product vision, technical roadmap, and engineering culture WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF… - You're passionate about Joyful Health's mission – you want to solve real, pressing problems for providers and put them in control of their businesses. You naturally empathize with users and enjoy designing solutions with their needs in mind. You have strong product intuition and an eye for detail. - You're excited to shape the future of our engineering team and are excited to lead by example – as an early team member, you'll have the chance to influence everything from our technical roadmap to our company culture. You have a radical sense of ownership with the ability and desire to own features and product areas end-to-end. You also have a low ego, growth mindset, and desire to see the product and team scale with your impact. - You have a love for your craft and strong technical execution - you view coding as a craft, not just a task, and you're excited about using technology to create meaningful impact. You care deeply about UX/UI and believe that great design is just as important as great engineering. You sweat the details. We care more about your drive, hustle, and passion than a college degree from a shiny institution or experience at name-brand companies. - You have 3+ years of experience in fullstack or frontend engineering, with a strong focus on building modern web applications - Experience working with healthcare data or building tools for operational workflows is a plus - Proficiency in: - React and TypeScript, with deep understanding of modern frontend patterns and best practices - Building polished, accessible, and responsive user interfaces with an eye for design - FastAPI or similar Python web frameworks for backend development - Working with APIs, databases, and understanding how to design systems that enable great UX - Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines such as Github Actions WORKING AT JOYFUL At Joyful Health, we’re on a mission to fix one of the most broken systems in healthcare.
