Job description
We take play seriously. We’re looking for curious adventurers ready to find their party, fueled by imagination and drive to build what’s never been built before. At Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, you’ll collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine our iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime. At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Business Systems Engineering (BSE) organization. We build the platform and applications that power the creation and production of Magic: The Gathering®, Dungeons & Dragons®, and Duel Masters®. These products drive over $2 billion in annual revenue and are beloved by millions of players worldwide. The systems we build are what make that work possible.
This is a role with high impact and real stakes. You'll set technical direction, shape engineering culture, and lead others while staying hands-on. You'll work on the cutting edge of AI-driven software development, pairing technical excellence and engineering discipline with AI-accelerated delivery ensuring quality, reliability, and long-term maintainability. We're on a journey to make history, and we want you to help lead it!
If you're motivated by ownership, care deeply about the craft, and want to build something that matters — join the party.
What You'll Do:
Design and develop services and applications on AWS that are core to our product creation platform.
Influence and champion and engineering standards across the org, resulting in effective system design at both the application and service level.
Leverage and enhance our AI-assisted development tooling continuously improving the practices, review standards, and quality gates that keep AI-accelerated delivery reliable and maintainable.
Own technical decisions end-to-end: assess tradeoffs, align partners, drive execution, and follow through without waiting to be asked.
Translate business challenges into well-designed, scalable software solutions in partnership with product owners and cross-functional partners.
Influence and build up your teammates through technical direction, and code and design reviews, supporting their growth and career development.
What You'll Bring:
8+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a lead, staff, or senior+ capacity.
Proven track record building and operating production-grade enterprise software. Deep understanding of application and distributed system design and architecture patterns.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development workflows and the judgment to critically evaluate AI-generated code against production quality standards.
Proficiency in C#/.NET, Java, Go or comparable languages, AWS, Docker/ECS/EKS), CI/CD pipelines, REST APIs, event-driven systems, and relational database design.
A history of influencing engineers through pairing, feedback, and driving technical excellence among your team.
A strong sense of ownership and the communication skills to drive outcomes across technical and non-technical partners.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice To Have:
Experience with React.js or other popular frontend frameworks.
Familiarity with event streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, AWS SNS/SQS).
Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code practices.
Curiosity about or knowledge of Wizards brands.
