A large financial-services organization is seeking a hands-on Senior Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across two major enterprise modernization programs. The engineer will help modernize business-critical Java applications from a legacy Java application-server environment to OpenShift while also supporting development of a new enterprise file-ingestion and managed file-transfer capability across OpenShift and AWS. This position is designed for a senior individual contributor who can influence architecture and technical direction while remaining directly involved in application engineering, troubleshooting, migration execution, production readiness, cutover, and legacy-platform retirement. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead modernization and migration of business-critical Java applications to OpenShift.Evaluate existing workloads and determine appropriate migration, refactoring, or retirement approaches.Drive application refactoring, containerization, deployment, validation, production cutover, and legacy-platform decommissioning.Help design and implement a modern enterprise file-ingestion and transfer capability across OpenShift and AWS.Partner with engineering and architecture teams on technical sequencing, dependencies, milestones, risks, and exit criteria.Improve resilience, observability, capacity planning, failover, incident response, and production-readiness practices.Support integration across cloud, on-premise, messaging, APIs, vendors, and legacy enterprise systems.Improve testing, CI/CD, automation, documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer.Mentor engineers while remaining personally involved in technical implementation and troubleshooting. Role Requirements 10+ years of software engineering experience.Strong recent hands-on Java development experience.Senior technical-lead experience supporting production-critical systems.Direct experience leading a major application or platform migration through production cutover.OpenShift or Kubernetes experience in production.AWS application-engineering experience.Experience designing and operating distributed systems.Strong understanding of resilience, observability, validation, rollback, and production operations.Experience partnering across engineering, architecture, product, and business teams.Ability to step into an in-flight modernization program and drive it through completion. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE IBM WebSphere or another Java EE application-server environment.Spring Boot, Open Liberty, Quarkus, or similar modernization experience.Enterprise managed file-transfer platforms such as Axway, IBM Sterling, GoAnywhere, or MOVEit.TypeScript / Node.Js, Kafka, IBM MQ, REST / GraphQL, or Postgres.AWS Transfer Family or related cloud-based file-transfer services.Mainframe or legacy enterprise integration experience.
