Job description

FOUNDING SOFTWARE ENGINEER Remote (U.S.) ABOUT BEDROCK TALENT At Bedrock Talent, we're intentional about the companies we represent. We don't partner with every startup that comes our way. We work with founders we'd be excited to work for ourselves, companies solving meaningful problems, and teams we genuinely believe have the potential to build category-defining businesses. This is one of those companies. ABOUT THE COMPANY Our client is a well-funded, seed-stage healthcare technology startup building AI-powered infrastructure to modernize how healthcare organizations coordinate care and administer benefits for some of the country's most vulnerable patient populations. They're tackling an incredibly complex operational challenge at the intersection of healthcare, data, and AI—replacing fragmented workflows with intelligent software that helps ensure patients receive the services they're entitled to while reducing administrative burden for care teams. The founding team combines deep healthcare domain expertise with experience building and scaling technology companies. They're thoughtful builders, customer-obsessed, and intentionally creating a culture centered around ownership, collaboration, and craftsmanship. Because the company is still in its earliest stages, we're conducting this search confidentially. THE OPPORTUNITY We're looking for a Founding Software Engineer who wants to help build far more than a product. You'll work directly alongside the founders to define the technical foundation, influence product direction, establish engineering culture, and help shape the future of the company. This is the type of role where your fingerprints will be on nearly every major technical decision. BEFORE YOU APPLY Rather than bury the important details in a long job description, here are the things that usually determine whether someone gets excited about this opportunity—or realizes it probably isn't the right fit. YOU'LL BE ONE OF THE FIRST ENGINEERS This is a true founding engineering opportunity. You'll help establish the architecture, technical standards, engineering culture, and development philosophy that will support the company for years to come. If you enjoy building from first principles, you'll likely thrive here. MEANINGFUL WORK The product directly supports healthcare organizations serving aging and medically complex populations. Every feature you build has the potential to reduce administrative burden, improve care coordination, and help people receive critical services more efficiently. It's infrastructure—but infrastructure with a very human impact. AI IS CORE TO THE PRODUCT This isn't a company trying to bolt AI onto an existing product. AI is foundational to how the platform operates. You'll work extensively with LLMs, intelligent workflows, automation, and large healthcare datasets while helping define what modern AI-native healthcare software looks like. BUILD THE COMPANY ALONGSIDE THE FOUNDERS You'll work directly with the founders every day. Your voice will matter. You'll influence architecture, engineering culture, hiring decisions, product direction, and technical strategy from day one. EXCEPTIONAL FOUNDERS I've spent more than a decade recruiting for startups and have worked with hundreds of founders. Every once in a while, you meet a team that simply has what I call good bones. They're ambitious without ego, deeply thoughtful about what they're building, and genuinely care about creating a company where exceptional people can do the best work of their careers. That's why Bedrock Talent chose to partner with them. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Design, build, and ship customer-facing product features end-to-end. - Own architecture across backend systems, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure. - Build event-driven systems and scalable data pipelines. - Develop AI-powered workflows leveraging modern LLM technologies. - Design reliable, secure systems capable of handling sensitive healthcare data. - Collaborate closely with the founders on product strategy and technical direction. - Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and development workflows. - Help recruit and shape the future engineering team. TECH STACK - Python - Serverless architecture - Large Language Models (LLMs) WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO... - Has 7+ years building production software. - Has strong backend engineering and data systems experience. - Has built cloud-native systems in AWS. - Enjoys shipping products—not just infrastructure. - Is comfortable working across the full stack when needed. - Already incorporates AI tools into their daily development workflow. - Has experience working with healthcare systems or other highly regulated environments. - Thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building from zero to one. THIS ROLE IS PROBABLY A GREAT FIT IF... - You want to be one of the earliest employees at a mission-driven startup. - You're energized by ownership rather than clearly defined responsibilities. - You enjoy solving difficult technical problems with real-world impact. - You care deeply about engineering quality while still moving quickly. - You want meaningful equity and the opportunity to build something lasting. THIS ROLE PROBABLY ISN'T THE RIGHT FIT IF... - You prefer large engineering organizations with established processes. - You enjoy specializing in one narrow area of engineering. - You're looking for highly structured product roadmaps and clearly defined requirements. - You'd rather optimize an existing platform than build one from the ground up. WHY THIS ROLE? Founding engineering opportunities like this don't come around often. The combination of exceptional founders, a meaningful healthcare mission, AI-native product development, significant ownership, and the chance to shape an entire engineering organization from day one is incredibly rare. If reading this made you think, "This is exactly the kind of company I've been hoping to find," we'd love to connect.
