Job description

Department Globus Sales & Marketing About the Department Globus (www.globus.org) is a mission-driven organization dedicated to enabling discovery by delivering advanced data management and computation capabilities to researchers worldwide. As a unit within The University of Chicago, Globus develops and operates commercial-quality, software-as-a-service used by thousands of institutions, including research universities, national laboratories, federal agencies, and commercial research organizations. Core features are free for non-profit researchers, and the Globus service is sustained through institutional subscriptions that unlock advanced features for organizations needing greater control, compliance support, and deeper integration with their research computing environment. This model reflects the organization’s core commitment: making secure, reliable cyberinfrastructure services accessible to the broadest possible research community. The Globus team comprises professional software developers and business operations staff, as well Globus Labs, a dedicated research group pioneering novel methods and technologies. Team members are geographically distributed—a structure that reflects the global nature of the research communities we serve—while maintaining a collaborative culture focused on making an impact in disciplines ranging from the life sciences and astronomy to materials science and public policy. Job Summary We are seeking a Product Marketing Manager to lead our marketing and communications team. The ideal candidate will bridge technical knowledge of research data management and computation to compelling, audience-specific marketing content. This role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and communications, translating Globus product capabilities into clear value propositions for multiple target audiences including system administrators and research end users. You will work independently to conceive, draft, and publish high-quality marketing materials without requiring extensive technical hand-holding from the engineering team. You will be supported by the marketing coordinator, events manager and other members of the Globus customer team in delivering our value proposition to diverse stakeholders across multiple channels. You enjoy developing a deep understanding about how products work and translating that knowledge to customer-facing solutions and value propositions. You have led a product marketing initiative from concept through launch, generating supporting content and iteratively refining customer messaging and calls-to-action. You enjoy interacting with actual users to learn about their challenges and develop potential solutions that leverage the product. You have worked in a cross-functional marketing environment and enjoy interacting with developers, customers, and internal sales and marketing teams. You appreciate the challenge of adapting a software platform to various markets, industry verticals, or research disciplines. You are naturally curious, and willing to learn by doing, while recognizing when you should collaborate with others in the organization. If some of these describe you, we’d love to chat! You would be joining a customer team that comprises experienced, “multiple-hat wearers” with diverse skills, who own substantial initiatives and can deliver against strategic objectives with minimal supervision. While the Globus platform has been around in various forms for over 25 years, we are still a very small team that operates like a software startup. Success in this role will be demonstrated by: delivering a refreshed messaging framework covering target personas such as researchers, system administrators, and application developers; authoring high-quality content assets (case studies, whitepapers, or solution briefs) with minimal revision cycles; supporting product feature launches end-to-end, from messaging through collateral to post-launch metrics; managing multi-channel marketing and communications programs; and establishing a repeatable market intelligence process that informs our sales and marketing efforts. Responsibilities Content Creation & Technical Writing: Author white papers, case studies, technical blog posts, how-to guides, and solution briefs targeted at different personas, collaborating with the Globus customer and engineering teams. Plans and coordinates the development and production of marketing campaigns, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met. Go-to-Market Support: Partner with the product and customer teams to plan and execute marketing for new feature releases and major platform updates. Lead marketing efforts in new market development. Lead reseller and partner marketing efforts. Develop launch collateral including release announcements, demo scripts, FAQs, and explainer videos.
