Entrepreneur In Residence at Banyan Software

Job description

Banyan Software is the best permanent home for software businesses that serve specialized industries, their employees, and their customers. With a buy-grow-and-hold-for-life approach and a permanent capital base, Banyan acquires and grows companies worldwide, honoring founder legacies and helping portfolio companies modernize through shared AI expertise and operational discipline. Founded in 2016, Banyan operates more than 120 portfolio companies across North and South America, Europe, and APAC, and has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list for six consecutive years. The Banyan Software Foundation, endowed with $100 million in Banyan stock, leverages technology to build a greener and more equitable world. The Opportunity We are launching a new Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program to build AI-native companies from within our portfolio. Across our 100+ operating companies, we hold deep domain expertise, loyal customers, and operating infrastructure built up over decades, much of it in specialized markets where the incumbent software hasn't been rethought for what AI can now do. Rather than ask an existing team to build the next thing alongside their day job, we're recruiting a Founder to do it from a blank slate. As an EIR, you'll stand up a new, AI-first company that leverages the domain knowledge, IP, and customer relationships of an established Banyan business, while operating independently with the speed, focus, and accountability of a startup. This is a Founder role, not a corporate innovation role. You will own the outcome. What You'll Do Partner with Banyan and an existing operating company to identify and validate a high-conviction, AI-native product opportunity adjacent to their core business. Stand up a new company from the ground up: product, team, go-to-market, and culture, built AI-first from day one. Take the product from $0 toward meaningful recurring revenue, using the domain expertise, source code, data, and customer relationships of the partner business as a running start. Build it lean. You are excited about building a sellable product, not just a demo, without managing a big team. Operate with full accountability for the venture's product, growth, and financial performance. Work in close partnership with the leadership of the affiliated operating company and with Banyan's central team, without inheriting the legacy constraints of the existing business. Who You Are This isn't a traditional executive hire. We're looking for a specific kind of operator: someone wired to build , not manage. Zero-to-one experience: you've taken a product from $0 to meaningful initial revenue (roughly $1M ARR), not scaled an already-proven product. Builder mentality: you are a hands-on engineer who loves creative problem solving and product strategy. AI-native thinker: you build AI-first products and AI-first support and delivery models from day one, not AI bolted onto an existing workflow. Founder DNA: you operate with urgency, take full ownership of outcomes, and are comfortable with ambiguity and limited resources. Product-led: you have deep product instincts and have been hands-on in shaping what gets built, not purely a go-to-market operator. Domain fit: you understand, or can quickly absorb, the vertical you're entering. Track record: early-stage startup experience (seed to Series A). What We Offer This role comes with real ownership. You'll receive a competitive cash package alongside meaningful equity in the new venture you build, with additional upside as the business grows. You'll also have the backing of an established operating company's domain expertise and infrastructure, along with Banyan's central resources, without the politics and legacy constraints of an existing organization. Specific compensation, equity, and funding terms are discussed directly with candidates as part of the interview process and are tailored to the venture and the individual. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Equal Employment Opportunity at Banyan: Banyan affirms that inequality is detrimental to our Global Teams, associates, our Operating Companies, and the communities we serve. As a collective, our goal is to impact lasting change through our actions. Together, we unite for equality and equity. Banyan is committed to equal employment opportunities regardless of any protected characteristic, including race, color, genetic information, creed, national origin, religion, sex, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, lawful alien status, ancestry, age, marital status, or protected veteran status and will not discriminate against anyone on the basis of a disability.
