Job description

About Morning Consult Morning Consult is a global decision intelligence company changing how modern leaders make smarter, faster, better decisions. The company pairs its proprietary high-frequency data with applied artificial intelligence to better inform decisions on what people think and how they will act. This role is available in any of our office locations or can be based remotely. Our award-winning and modern offices are located in Washington, DC; Chicago, IL; and New York, NY. All three offices are accessible by public transportation and in close proximity to great restaurants and shopping. Join us in the office for catered lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, or grab a beverage from the fridge for an impromptu after-work happy hour! The Role Morning Consult is hiring a Director, Marketing Strategy to own the marketing organization's highest-priority cross-functional initiatives end to end — from problem definition through implementation, adoption, and the outcome each one was meant to produce. This is the kind of work that doesn't sit neatly inside a single function, requires structuring real ambiguity, and needs someone who can move fluidly between strategic planning and hands-on execution. How ownership works: This role owns projects and supports every function across the Marketing team. On every initiative you take on, you are the accountable owner: you define the problem, build the plan, convene the cross-functional group, drive the decisions, and are measured on whether it shipped and moved the number it was supposed to move. Marketing leadership may be in the room for the first meeting — after that it's yours. Every initiative on the list below is one the business cannot execute without a dedicated owner, which is why the role exists. This is not a conventional product marketing, growth, or operations role. You'll flex across the function to support what the business needs most in a given quarter. In one stretch that might mean rebuilding how inbound leads flow from marketing to sales; in another, it might mean helping take new AI and agentic product capabilities to market, translating strategic priorities into concrete plans and scorecards, or working through how the team's content function should evolve. What You'll Be Working On - Own the marketing organization's highest-priority cross-functional initiatives — scoped with the Chief Growth Officer, then run by you — the projects too multidisciplinary or consequential to sit inside a single function. - Own communication and reporting of overall growth function performance to executive, cross-functional, and team function leaders. - Own large-scale transformation projects end-to-end, from problem definition through implementation and adoption. - Structure undefined, messy problems into clear plans, workstreams, timelines, and owners — and drive them to completion. - Translate Marketing leadership's strategic priorities into concrete operating plans, targets, and scorecards, and own tracking progress against them over time. - Build and run the operating rhythm for the marketing organization — planning cycles, leadership reviews, and the decision forums that go with them — so the team operates against real targets and a real calendar. - Lead Marketing's role in company-level strategic efforts — the go-to-market for new AI and agentic product capabilities, our analytics investment, and Marketing's contribution to our largest enterprise and AI-partner pitches. You'll carry these with the authority to decide, not just to report back. - Partner with functional leads to evaluate and strengthen the team's capabilities and areas for improvement. - Build the materials and narratives for executive- and leadership-level conversations, translating complex initiatives into clear, decision-ready updates. - Serve as a trusted thought partner to marketing leadership on prioritization, resourcing, and organizational design decisions. - Build trust and alignment across stakeholders in Sales, Product, RevOps, and Finance, ensuring Marketing's priorities are understood and properly resourced beyond the marketing org itself. - Move fluidly between strategy and hands-on execution — this role is built to flex toward wherever the business need is greatest. About You and What You've Done - 8+ years of experience spanning product marketing, growth, or business/marketing operations and strategy, ideally including time at a high-growth SaaS, data, or technology company. - A track record of owning large-scale, cross-functional transformation projects from ambiguity through execution. - Comfortable operating without a fixed functional lane — genuinely energized by moving between strategy, analytics, and hands-on execution as priorities shift. - A systems thinker who can diagnose broken or informal processes and redesign them to scale. - Strong judgment operating with significant autonomy; exercises wide latitude in determining the right approach to critical, undefined assignments. - Experience operating as a close, trusted partner to a senior leader on strategic initiatives. - Experience building or running planning cycles, operating cadences, or scorecards for a leadership team, and comfort acting as a proxy for senior leadership in certain settings. - Strong analytical fluency and comfort getting into the data to inform recommendations. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to flex between detailed execution and clear, executive-level narrative. - Genuine curiosity about applying AI to marketing and operations, with an interest in evaluating and rolling out new tools and agentic capabilities. - Depth in B2B product marketing, data or licensing go-to-market, or enterprise growth is a strong plus — several of the first projects sit squarely in that territory. Note: We view the above section as a guide, not a checklist. Research shows that underrepresented/marginalized groups are less likely to apply for a job if they feel that they don’t meet 100% of the qualifications. We welcome diverse and non-traditional backgrounds and encourage you to apply even if you don’t satisfy every single bullet on this list! It’s expected that you’ll learn and grow throughout your time at Morning Consult, so if you’re open to building new skills, we’d love to hear from you. The expected salary range for this position is $172,900 – $290,800, with a midpoint of $231,900. In most cases, we target the midpoint of our salary ranges for new hire compensation. This placement is reflective of full proficiency in a role. This role is eligible for an equity grant, which will be discussed in your initial recruiter conversation.
