We are looking for a Senior Java backend engineer to work on a platform that will allow us to develop and integrate all existing and new applications into one core.
Essential functions
• Define the target architecture for the new Java services: service boundaries, API contracts, data storage (MongoDB, Redis) and how they deploy on GKE.
• Build the engineering team from the ground up: shape roles, take part in hiring, onboard engineers and set working practices.
• Design and implement core REST APIs, and lead by example through hands-on coding and code reviews.
• Set engineering standards for code quality, branching, testing and SonarQube quality gates.
• Set up the delivery pipeline with the platform team so code ships reliably to GKE through Jenkins, Argo CD and Kustomize.
• Act as the main technical contact for client stakeholders: turn business needs into technical plans and report progress and risks.
Qualifications
• Strong commercial Java backend experience, including designing and building REST APIs (Maven-based builds).
• Has designed a project's architecture from scratch: defined service boundaries, data stores and deployment approach, and documented the trade-offs.
• Built and organized an engineering team from scratch: defined roles, onboarding, working agreements and delivery cadence.
• Can explain technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to client stakeholders and engineers, in writing and in meetings.
• Excellent Communication Skills
• Agile delivery tracking in Jira.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Compute Science or similar major.
Would be a plus
• Google Cloud Platform experience, especially GKE and the Google Cloud SDK.
• Hands-on experience with Redis caching and MongoDB data modelling.
• Familiar with a GitOps delivery chain: Jenkins, Argo CD, Kustomize, SonarQube quality gates.
• API documentation with Swagger/OpenAPI; testing with Postman or SoapUI.
We offer
• Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects
• Work with a highly motivated and dedicated team
• Competitive salary
• Flexible schedule
• Benefits package - medical insurance, vision, dental, etc.
• Corporate social events
• Professional development opportunities
• Well-equipped office
• Please note that all onboarding must occur in person and you may be asked to travel to attend
