Job description

[app.ashbyhq.com] ABOUT BASIS Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy. Our agents operate for hours at a time, performing end-to-end work for some of the largest accounting firms in the world. We recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation and are racing to deploy the most advanced applied ML at production scale. Our investors include: Khosla Ventures (Keith Rabois & Vinod Khosla), Accel (Miles Clements), Google Ventures, Nat Friedman & Daniel Gross, Adam D'Angelo, Jeff Dean, Jack Altman, Noam Brown, Kyle Vogt, Amjad Masad, Clem Delangue and many other operators/technical leaders. "Basis is on the frontier of building production-grade, long-horizon agents. They've pushed the limits of what we thought our models could do on real-world, economically valuable, complex accounting tasks. They've been a great collaborator in helping us shape what the future of agents looks like." — Prashant Mital, Applied AI Lead, OpenAI About the role: We're scaling our BDR team to build our outbound motion from the ground up. Basis has grown entirely through inbound — word of mouth, referrals, customers finding us. Now we're going outbound for the first time, and this is the person who figures out how it works. You'll partner directly with the Director of Business Development and our Account Executive team to find the right accounts, crack the messaging, and turn a blank page into a repeatable playbook. This is a builder role — for someone early in their career who wants to create something, not just execute someone else's system, with a clear path into a closing or leadership role as Basis scales. 📍 Location: NYC, Flatiron office. In-person team. What you'll be doing: - Build the outbound playbook from scratch: Test different channels, messages, and approaches until you find what works, then systematize it for the team that comes after you. - Find the messaging that lands: Inbound customers came to us already convinced — outbound is a different muscle. Figure out how to talk about Basis in a way that makes in-house accounting and finance teams want to take a meeting. Write, test, learn, rewrite. - Research and prioritize the right accounts: Determine which companies we should be talking to, in what order, and why. Build the targeting logic, not just the list. - Get meetings with the right people: Convert your outreach into conversations with controllers, CFOs, and finance leaders — and calibrate your approach until you're booking them consistently. - Feed intel back into the business: You're the first person talking to the market at scale. What you hear — objections, competitors, pain points — shapes how we position, sell, and build. Document it and share it. - Set up the infrastructure: Own the tools, the tracking, and the reporting that lets us understand what's working. What you'll bring: - High agency: You figure out what needs to happen, do it, and when it doesn't work, you try something else — without being given a playbook. - First principles thinker: You ask why something should work, build from there, and arrive at approaches that are actually suited to Basis and our customers — rather than copying what other companies do and hoping it works. - Coachable: You know how to think for yourself but don't reinvent the wheel. When someone with more context points you in a direction, you take it seriously and build on it. - Creative: You find angles other people miss. You write things people actually want to read. - Natural leader: You're the first person in this role — and won't be the last. How you work and the standards you set become the template for everyone who comes after you. - Strong communicator: You write clearly and concisely. You can hold a conversation, handle pushback, and get to the point. - All-in: This is not a 9-5, we have a massive opportunity ahead of us and are looking to further accelerate our velocity. We are optimizing for the best folks and happy to compensate generously. What we’d love to see: - 1–2 years in sales or business development, preferably a role with a heavy outbound motion - Experience in high pace environments such as high growth startups or door-to-door sales - High levels of adoption of AI in your day-to-day - Experience with outbound tools (Apollo, Outreach, Salesloft, HubSpot, or similar) BENEFITS AT BASIS We offer a competitive and thoughtful benefits package designed to support your physical, mental, and financial well-being: - Health & Wellness: Premium Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage; Life Insurance; and 6 coaching & 6 therapy sessions through Spring Health. - Basis will cover 100% of your Wellhub Gold wellhub.com membership. - Wellhub gives you access to gyms like Lifetime, SoulCycle, NYSC and so many more - as well as access to wellness apps like Strava & Headspace! - Time off: Unlimited PTO + 12 paid company holidays. - In-Office Perks: Daily meal stipends, a fully stocked kitchen, and $300 toward your custom desk setup. - Financial Benefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits and 401(k) retirement plan - Team Culture: Monthly office activities and frequent optional team happy hours. - Parental Support: Access to Carrot Fertility and paid parental leave.
